The Kennedy Center’s board voted Thursday to inscribe President Donald Trump’s name into the storied building’s white marble facade and proceed with a lengthy shutdown of the venue to accommodate an extensive $250 million renovation project, according to ex officio member Rep. Joyce Beatty.

The decision comes just months after a judge ruled that separate signage bearing the president’s name had to be taken off the building’s marquee. The new inscription will test the order, though due to ongoing litigation the judge has the power to delay the projects.

The board, which Trump fired en masse last year and restocked with allies, voted to close the center’s main building, while The Reach, a newer expansion to the facility, will remain open for limited events. It will also serve as a memorial to former President John F. Kennedy.

No wonder the tarp never came down.

There must be at least one example where trump accepted no for an answer (but I can’t think of any).

The next President should expunge trump from all associations with the presidency. All of his appointments should be recalled and everything he’s done should be rolled back. That includes the SCOTUS (especially the SCOTUS) and all thier subsequent “decisions.” A line must be drawn to inform the next demigouge that their fuckery will NOT be tolerated.

This is part of their strategy, because if a Democrat did win, the expectation is that they would, at best, follow typical procedure and it would take years and they would have people delay and maybe even turn it into a wedge in a subsequent election.

trump will not leave office without knowing what it is like to press the red button though. Doesn’t seem like there will be a next attempt at anything.

I have ideas about what to do with Heritage Foundation HQ. Like providing a fine display of whimsical pyrotechnics, while all of their top reps and billionaire friends are inside having a wonderful “charity gala.” My, they’ll never taste such fine caviar again!

This is absolutely true. But it’s also probably a permanent degradation of our government.

It’s like Mexico. When corruption becomes endemic in the government, because (like Trump) you’ve fired the neutral government career folks and replaced them with political loyalists who don’t care about actually administering the law, then the next election they get replaced, but because they’re now “in play,” they never again survive administration changes.

So there’s a purge every change of administration. And because at least one side is corrupt, don’t be surprised if during the lead-up to the next administration changeover (assuming we can get that far), Trump’s lackeys destroy records across every institution they control, alongside blanket pardons, just to destroy any chance that the incoming administration can function and transition seamlessly.

The result is no more administrative continuity, chaos and a downward spiral of eroding trust in government.

The US federal government is a lost cause at this point. States that believe in logical, functional societies will need to replace it with state and local governance, or with interstate compacts.

Only if we get rid of the establishment and corporate/AIPAC owned Democrats. And even then only maybe. Trump was allowed to turn ICE into an extremely well funded personal army that doesn’t swear to uphold the Constitution. Even if Democrat Socialists sweep the midterms, it seems likely that will result in him getting even more extreme in ignoring the laws and court orders.

What happens if he decides to use the imaginary authority he granted himself over revoking citizenship with his last illegal executive order to declare that all the Democrats in congress who weren’t born in the US or had a parent from any country he decides to call an enemy are no longer US citizens and send large groups of ICE goons to kidnap them?

If anyone else did something like that the President could call on the US Military to defend them, but he clearly wouldn’t do that when he’s the one ordering it. It’s very possible that since so much of the Republican party is fully owned by him, Congress wouldn’t have the votes to do anything against it. If it’s something done quickly and quietly and those representatives are removed before Congress can act they certainly wouldn’t, and even if they managed to and did have the votes the President is still Commander-in-Chief.

To put the military in a position where obeying him is clearly wrong they’d have to vote to remove him entirely, which would take two thirds of the Senate and by default promote JD Vance to President.

Holy shit. He wasn’t allowed to change it’s name so he’s doing to have his lackeys carve his name into the the side of the building instead.

Nothing happening in the US is sane. This person should have been removed from power by the other branches of government a long time ago. The government is nonfunctional to the point I’m very honestly worried that the Democrats sweeping the midterms won’t make any difference.

I think a lot of people still believe that of the Democrats sweep the midterms it will make things better quickly.

I see that as the only good path, but think it would cause him to become even more unstable and try to claim enough Democrats are no longer citizens based on his last legal executive order to create an R majority… and don’t see many Republicans complaining about it.

If Democrats take all of the senate seats that are up for election, they’ll be able to get the two thirds majority needed to convict him in the senate after impeachment. The odds of that happening are somewhere between slim and none.

Otherwise, unless some of the Republican senators cross the aisle, you’re stuck with President Trump for the next couple of years assuming he survives.

The problem is that even if the Democrats sweep every possible seat, if that executive order was written with that in mind and he quietly writes something declaring that a lot of those Democrats in Congress are no longer US citizens and large well-armed groups of ice are sent to kidnap a whole lot of them in a surprise raid…
