Well I’ve never been to Finland, maybe their food is vastly superior. And to be fair it doesn’t take much to be better than the USA. So maybe your friend is right
It’s the only country I’ve ever traveled to where it felt like everyone was trying to upsell you on every little thing. See those bread sticks in the center of the table? Don’t touch them, don’t even fucking glance at them, or you’ll get charged an arm and a leg in Euros. Ask for water but you wanted still and not sparkling? Fuck you son, that’s another charge you didn’t think about.
One place I went to, I shit you not, had the toilet seat and toilet paper chained to a weight you had to carry from the front of the shop to the upstairs toilet after making a purchase.
The seat chained to a weight was in Venice. TBF they did have an issue with people stealing their toilet paper…but the seat?
I will say, there was a little spot in Florence where we saw one of the workers run out the back to a nearby shop to grab an ingredient they’d just run out of. That was pretty cool of them.
As someone who was lucky enough to visit Italy, it is far from overrated.
My friend from Finland (of all places) went there and said it was overrated
Maybe he lacks taste buds, biologically?
Honestly I’d believe that for all of Scandinavia, but it also might be that the salt liquorice burns them off at a young age.
I’d say 90% of places I went were remarkably meh. But that 10% was on point.

Finland is the land where only spices are salt and pepper.
Well I’m not judging until I eat it with a side of ice cube salad
Dill, you forgot about dill. Also Aromat.

The food was just ok.
Where the hell did you go in Italy? All the food I got was super cheap. Sounds like you ate at the equivalent of a southern USA gas station

That explains everthing: you went in a tourist trap
Right? I feel like the labels for Italy and France should be switched.
Well this is still according to the French so take it with a grain of salt!
And an entire bulb of garlic.
