Yeah… This is the face of a guy hunting humans on that land. He probably got the land there instead of a more private island somewhere remote in order to have lower latency to drones in Ukraine.

Smart move. With the deepening climate collapse (also caused by his company ;-), land in the north will increase in value. Already today, many Europeans are refocusing their vacstion destinations; from the south of France to Scandinavia.

So maybe people don’t want to hear this but as a hunter I have to say this area is likely to become a wildlife disaster.

If humans are a regular predator and the predator is removed the fight for food resources among the prey species is going to result in a lot of animal deaths and suffering. This will cause ecological devastation to the area, waste meat that humans would have used, and potentially cause other shifts in wildlife that are harder to predict.

The government, in addition to taxing this land heavily, should procure an easement for hunters to maintain ecological stability.

If this guy is planning to tear everything down and install data centers out there we should build a rocket and yeet him into the sun.

lol this trope again “it will be bad for nature if nature is allowed to be natural. Only humans can help and only by killing animals”

        I’m not saying that.

I’m saying that humans have already played a role in this environment and it has adapted to it. We are part of nature, we’re literally animals and we are part of the ecology of any environment we live in. If we weren’t part of it then we’d be an invasive species (and in industrial ways we are which is a whole other topic). But when it comes lands that have been hunted by humans for ages and not industrialized we are a part of that system and hunting those lands helps preserve the balance there. There’s a reason hunting is heavily regulated, it’s to ensure we’re doing the balance thing and not the destruction thing.

It’s exhausting when people look at this as a trope, it just highlights human exceptionalism and your lack of empathy for nature even though you think you have it. The minute you take humans out of an ecosystem they are naturally a part of you actually increase the problem in a variety of ways.

I have sympathy for your lack of understanding here though, modern life does a great job of convincing us we aren’t part of nature, and when you think this way it makes it easy to continue the destruction while we bemoan our evil. It’s hypocritical and shallow in its logic.

Downvote me all you want, I don’t care I just hope I have provided something to consider when it comes to nature and humanity’s role in that nature. It’s a deeply complex issue and it’s worth consideration.

When people spend that amount of money without telling anyone it’s probably not an investment but either speculation or for personal use.

Why would anyone need this much woodland for themselves? It’s unlikely he bought all of this for himself as a vacation spot. So he’s probably buying this speculating on a rise in prices for this kind of land.

And that’s interesting. Why would swedens forests increase massively in value?

The sellers in this case were SCA, who own large amounts of forest land in Sweden that they grow trees on.

It seems unlikely that they would sell it if the land value was expected to be riding, in particular for a forestry use-case, in which SCA are already specialized.

The most compelling theory so far is that he purchased the land for use in cross-country skiing, which he apparently has a big interest in. This part of Jämtland is good for cross-country skiing, something I know from first-hand experience.

“Woodlands” is a stretch, as the property sits around or above the tree line (elevation thingy). Allegedly Mr Karp is a big skiing enthusiast with several properties in Norwegian skiing spots already. However, 240M SEK seems a bit much for a property he can’t reasonably have an ROI on. I have a hard time believing there won’t be data centers built on the property within 5 years.

240M SEK is roughly 24M USD

Alex Karp had a net worth in excess of 18B USD in 2025 if wikipedia is to be believed.

This is 1/800th of his net worth, or 0.125%

It’s not like he needs to monetize this land immediately to keep making money from the rest of his net worth

Edited because I made a silly mistake in conversion rates. 1 sek is roughly 0.1 USD, not 10 USD.

Singapore have created them using human brain cells & they use same power as an led light bulb, take up fk all space & only require a bit off food now & then to keep the cells alive. Oh and its brain cells do the whole thing is tiny.
