71·6 days agoDo not look into pocketbook. Owner of many years here. My touchscreen failed. The e-ink screen is completely fine. It was never dropped and been babied for all the years I owned it (always transported in its own hard-shell case). It just spontaneously failed and they charge two thirds of the price of a new device for a new touchscreen. A touchscreen of this size costs about 20 euros. They charge 260 euros. (InkPad X) and no, you cannot use any mouse or keyboard, not via USB-C nor Bluetooth. Either your touchscreen works or the device is totaled. Stay away from this trash company. And yes, it is glued together. Because of course it is.
Yeah, I’ve tried photogimp, but it just changes the layout to be more comfortable for Photoshop users, which I’m not. GMIC is a collection of different VFX.
Two of my favourite ones are median and montage. One I use for mood boards, the other one is to get rid of either noise or people in images.
Nice. This year we should try increasing to a 100% reduction.
GIMP, but you definitely should install also the GMIC and resynthesiser plugins. With GMIC especially, you’re getting so many things that not even Photoshop can do, making GIMP objectively superior.
Edit: If you mean you’re looking for a raw editor, meaning you change the colors and how the image themselves look, then you need Darktable. This is a raw editor. GIMP is mainly for VFX.

6·7 days agoAs someone who once believed the same as you, military surplus can really be hit and miss. It will either be the best that you have ever seen and built like a tank or the worst flimsy, rubbish bag with arms and legs that you have seen.
Edit: typo.

Europe@feddit.org•French newspaper : Many Germans have a deep relationship with combustion cars. For them, buying a quiet electric car is emotionally hard to accept. English
2·8 days agoYeah, that’s the problem, isn’t it? Electric cars were built in the age of planned obsolescence and other enshitification mechanisms. There still were ICE cars that were actually built to the highest quality standard, that age of quality, electric car sadly missed.
Edit: Enshitification got auto corrected. :(

125·8 days agoI’m going to play Devil’s Advocate here: I’m against this because many European projects are incompatible with Canada. In some parts, Canada’s infrastructure is as bad as the USA’s. Look at public transport, for example. Everything is car centric, and if you’re not rich enough to own a car, you’re basically excluded from public life, I don’t mean this in an elitist type of way. Even Germany has significantly better public transport than Canada. Many of the other networking projects such as TEN-T or ETCS do not make sense as it is quite literally separated from the EU. Common standards are only useful when everyone agrees to use them. But as Canada would be the only EU state on the North American continent, they would be the only ones using it. Enhanced political cooperation and trade is always a positive thing, but the EU is more than just FTAs and other diplomatic pleasantries. IMHO.

1·8 days agoBut remember EVs are significantly less maintenance intensive. You don’t need oil changes. Brake pad changes are less often. The engine doesn’t need to be rebuilt after a certain amount of kilometers, in general, there are way less parts that can fail. So it’s not all just bad. There are genuine improvements there, and if the battery technology were to be improved, I mean that’s a solid upgrade, isn’t it? But that hinges all on the battery, so yeah.

1·8 days agoNo. Cheaper options like the Renault 5 E-tech cost 25 k€, expensive products like the BMW i4 about 60 k€. How’s it more economical to throw this thing into the trash and buy a new one instead of just repairing it?

Europe@feddit.org•MEPs urge EU to block ICE from entering Europe for Winter OlympicsEnglish
15·8 days agoThe EU luckily does not have a death penalty. Even for people like ICE, no state should ever kill another person, because it is exactly this type of mentality that has created ICE and enabled their gang violence. States killing bad guys is all fun and games until the bad guy definition shifts towards you. Would you like to find yourself at the end of some ICE thug’s barrel?
