And perhaps one of our states leaves the country.

Hosting with close allies shouldn’t be a problem.
Within the EU, I still don’t care in which country the data is hosted

I wouldn’t say forever. But it will take a long time to rebuild.

Volt ran a really powerful campaign on that idea

Sadly, most elections have rather high electoral thresholds, so they are only really successful at the EU and communal level.

They aren’t going to manufacture there. Chip manufacturing happens almost exclusively in Taiwan. That new building is just an office to design those chips.
A lot of maths goes into designing computer chips. You need an army of highly trained mathematicians and engineers for that.
And Israel is a really rich country that gets a lot of gifts and “investments” from people who want to show they aren’t antisemitic. They invest a lot of that money into the education of their citizens.
Israel’s universities are some of the best in the world. While US universities are on a steep downhill.

Yes, that’s quick research. Enough for a post on the internet. Far from enough for a science paper

They are missing out.
When I started reading British books in their original language, instead of the professional translations, they got about 10× funnier. And that’s despite only having B1-B2 reading comprehension. Translations can never capture all of the connotations of a word or phrase.
Your point about learning English might very well be true though. There is a high correlation amongst EU countries, between the average English level of adult citizens, and whether or not popular movies get dubbed or only get subtitles.
YouTube introduced that horrible mandatory auto-dubbing recently. At some point, that might become viable, and that will probably severely impact language acquisition.

If he only used it as a tool, I’d still say it’s his work. It should of course be included in the methodology section.
But considering he lost 2 years worth of work, just because his chats got wiped? That’s more than just a tool

Maschine Translation only really works for written text. I don’t know anyone who wanted to learn a language to read written text

If I post something in German, that’s certainly not because I want to exclude people that don’t speak German. Usually it’s just because that’s my first language. You know, the language I speak best.
At most, it’s so I can reach slightly more people in the Dach region. But that doesn’t mean they are the only ones allowed to read that.

It’s rare that there’s even an agreement on what the problem is.

I am sorry they are losing their jobs. That probably took ages to learn and it’s all that transferable.
However, translation tools are one of the better applications of LLMs. I can’t afford a translator. If I want to read an Irish website, I would be lost without translation tools. I don’t want to go back to times when they were completely unreliable

I only joined a few days ago. And I was positively surprised by the guest mode that boost provides. It already has a bunch of default subscriptions. Although a first run wizard would have been even better.
I was a bit disappointed when I created an account and the feed was suddenly completely empty.
I also would like to see a smarter home feed. Cluster algorithms and engagement tracking could help some. But I’m currently missing a way more basic feature. Please don’t show me the same posts over and over again, every time I open the app!

Microsoft isn’t the sort of company I would want to run a nuclear power plant. That’s a huge responsibility
