French investigators suspect sabotage was behind a train derailment in northwestern France that injured 44 people and left passengers in a state of shock, prosecutors said on Saturday.
The disappointment you feel when you click to open an article and it’s a video.
I’ll mark them as videos going forward, if i can remember to.
It was reported to have struck an object on the line before it derailed.
Did someone move or deploy a Derail on the track? That would be my guess and trivially easy to do.
Edit for those unfamiliar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derail
They found a 300kg metal bar on the track. So not a purpose build derailer, but something, which certainly does not just appear.
Ah thanks. Ya it’s not like something like that would have been blown there by the wind, It would have taken a concentrated effort to move something that heavy involving either a tractor or at the very least several people.
If true, that’s not sabotage; that’s a terror attack. Yet another way dilly-dallying on backing Ukraine keeps blowing up in Europe’s face.
If it’s sabotage, given her recent sabotage campaigns in Europe, Russia’s probably on the French law enforcement possible suspect list. However, as of this writing, French law enforcement hasn’t said anything about Russia.
I remember a few years back when, during concerns over Islamic terrorism, some guy in Germany tried bombing a bus with a soccer team. His goal was to try to make money on sports betting. Was not, I think, anyone’s first guess.
I expect that they’ll be putting a lot of resources on finding the responsible party, though.
EDIT: Stock market manipulation of the team’s share price, not sports betting.
Is this mostly a video? I rejected cookies and it filled the screen with a box at the top complaining that it couldn’t show me a YouTube video now and a box at the bottom complaining about all the things they couldn’t show me because of my choice. On the article if I clicked “Read More” it was just the same text on this post, nothing more.
Yes, it is a video. Here is a direct YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX3To80DiyE.
Is this mostly a video?
Yes.
EDIT: There’s a Wikipedia article up that’s text, which I posted a link to in another comment.
There’s also DW’s coverage, which is text:
https://www.dw.com/en/france-sabotage-suspected-in-train-derailment/a-79241365
DW reports the opposite
no indication of a malicious act carried out with the deliberate intention of derailing the train, and certainly not of an attack
Gallois’ remarks came after some politicians had suggested earlier on Saturday that the incident might have been the result of sabotage or other criminal activity
Yeah, they updated their article. France24 hasn’t yet…
