While speaking on the final night of the GOP midterm convention, Vice President JD Vance said the country was “poorer” and “dirtier” before President Donald Trump was reelected for a second term.
“We were tired of being called racists for noticing that our country was becoming dirtier and poorer, and less safe and less prosperous,” Vance said on the final day of the two-day convention in Dallas, Texas.
His sentiment appeared to reflect the administration’s efforts to combat rising immigration rates in the U.S., a key campaign point during the 2024 election. Vance himself promoted unsubstantiated claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, in September 2024, spreading misinformation about the community abducting and eating pets.
This is so funny because to the people he’s pandering to, his children are the dirt in this country.
Fascism has taken on a new form when it comes to race. I think people focus too heavily on the historical examples of fascism in an attempt to “reason” it as an ideology.
The racial structures of fascism are there to uphold white supremacy, patriarchy, and class. The contradiction is useful for the fascist. It is not a flaw or something that will cause conflict to other fascist. JD vance’s wife being Indian is seen as “useful”. Nothing more. That’s primarily how fascism operates. It’s why the definition of “Aryan” changed throughout place and time under Nazi rule. It’s the reason why who is considered “White” didn’t even include Germans when Benjamin Franklin used was using the term.
It’s baffling to me that he is in an interracial marriage and is… Fine? With saying this kind of stuff? Idk maybe she is a monster too and it’s just cherry picking what is considered bad in their moral compass…

A few days ago Vance also got really riled up when discussing this kinda stuff. He said something about El Sayed not being the kinda person his hick granpappy would approve of and El Sayed shot back asking if the hick granpappy would approve of his wife. It really set him off, going on about how El Sayed shouldn’t bring Vance’s family into this. It was kinda funny to watch him squirm.
JD Vance is nothing. He’s not evil or stupid or whatever like the other MAGA people. He’ just a guy that nobody likes.

I think exceptions and tokens play an important role in permitting the followers of fascists to deny the general principles of the people they follow, even in their own minds. For example, if Vance’s wife is brown, then Trump can’t hate all brown people, right? Then he must be rounding up those other brown people for some reason other than their being brown. The news keeps saying they’re rounding up criminals, many of whom happen to be brown, and the Left keeps screeching that Republicans hate all brown people, but his wife is brown… so the Left must be lying. The evidence to the contrary is right in front of your eyes.
And so on. Tokens are kept around by Republicans because they provide the thinnest possible veneer of plausible deniability to people who are afraid of non-whites but don’t want to think of themselves as racists. It’s a convenient off-ramp from a road that would otherwise tempt them to think difficult thoughts about themselves and the policies they approve of or at least willfully ignore.

Indian people tend to be considered white in a lot of American spaces. May have to do with the amount of Indian immigrants that are higher caste/lighter skinned. They tend to be super racist towards black people and darker Asians
Don’t know why you’re downvoted like that, casteism/colorism is well-known within the Indian community. The Brahmins and White nationalists are like-minded in that sense, although the White nationalists still see themselves as superior.
They are religiofascist to a degree and demonize Muslims and enforce the “superiority” of Hinduism. There are definitely some mirrors to what has happened in their government versus ours.

I think the down votes are probably because I’ve never encountered a space where Indians are considered white, maybe in Silicon Valley? I hear more racist jokes about Indians than any other ethnic group in the Southeast US, though I hear more racist comments about black people and Hispanics.
Maybe it’s because I’m from a weird Californian region but I fell like Indians are generally pumped into the “dirty Asians” category regardless of caste or skin tone. But also I’ve seen really racist assholes defend the local Sikhs in particular so maybe my region is just weird.
