Belgium eliminated imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) in August, driving an EU-wide reduction months ahead of a total ban, according to a new report published by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) think tank on Sept. 11.
“EU imports of Russian LNG fell 46% month-on-month to their lowest monthly volume since Russia’s full-scale invasion began (in 2022),” reads CREA’s latest report.
…
Belgium’s weaning itself off Russian LNG leaves France, Spain, and the Netherlands as the remaining importers.
French ports accounted for 57% of the EU’s total LNG imports. Levi explained that France’s TotalEnergies energy company has an LNG import contract that will be terminated at the end of 2026.
…
In August 2026, Russia’s fossil fuel export revenues fell by 8% month-on-month to EUR 604 mn per day, while export volumes fell 7%, according to the report.
…
China was the largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels in August 2026, with seaborne crude imports up 16% month-on-month and 62% above August 2025 levels.
…
Or they will just buy it under a none EU flag and sell it that way.
Doing my part since three months ago, switching from gas to a heat pump - in Denmark though.
I’m still using gas, but just for water heating. Have no ideas when I will do the change
There’s no time like the present. Do it for Ukraine, Do it for European/Global security, Do it for the environment… heck, do it for your self, lowering cost and increasing the value of your property.
I’m rooting for you!
It do cost money to change though and unless you get a heat pump, it won’t necessarily save you money, regular electric water heaters take a ton of power. If you get an air to water or ground to water heatpump, those will save you a ton of money, but the installation costs are… more than you’ll save on water alone, would have to heat your entire home for it to pay off eventually
Wasn’t it already supposed to be zero?
Nope, LNG imports into the EU from Russia are banned only from Jan 1st 2027.
It’s crazy how long that took, glad we have learned our lesson now.
now let us inport gas from our transatlantic friends thats 7 times more expensive, because free market, partners and such bullshit
Canadian LNG is slightly more expensive then Russia one, due to the longer transport. However it is much cheaper one a systems scale, as the Canadians do not use that money to threaten other countries.
like the USA?
US LNG was rather happily competing with Russian pipeline gas before the invasion. Also friends?
best buddies, all of us.
Canada signs landmark LNG energy deal with Germany
It involves the shipping of one million tonnes per year of LNG from Ksi Lisims, a proposed project on British Columbia’s coast, to Germany by its national energy utility company Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE).
The deal with SEFE will see annual LNG exports from Canada to Germany for up to 20 years …
There is another one between Ksi Lisims and Uniper as well.
I would buy LNG from the devil himself if it meant fucking with Russia and thus supporting Ukraine and European security.
Out of curiosity, would you buy it from Iran? Or North Korea, or China for that matter?
Excellent question, no i would not buy from these countries. But I do love my hyperboles.
that was the mother of all hyperboles. so, where is the red line? where does the devil cease to exist, or gets tamed enough for you to buy gas from it?
I’m sure you would.
