This is the correct comment. But the one with the assumption is voted higher. Lemmy loving vibes more than facts, day 1,436.

Yes, the audio is never stored, the summaries can be completely turned off, and yes, Apple again is caught inside its own bubble being ever more disconnected from the outside silicon valley life. They should not have touted this so strongly and loudly.

People will these devices are being kidnapped daily and forced to open their devices. Even without the audio some of these transcripts can be used as evidence against them or their families, violating their 5th amendment rights.

You don’t have the facts either though. You are just assuming whatever Apple says is the truth.

Apple says stuff about Apple product. How is that not a fact?

They said that. They have very little incentive to lie.

They have the only incentive that matters to lie: Profit.

If they would admit that the Data is send to Servers and or saved, there would be backlash hurting their bottom line.

And they should record and save everything to collect and sell the Data, aiding their bottom line.

Man, I don’t know. Where I’m coming ‘Profit’ is the exact reason not to do this.

You’re applying redneck town butcher level of business logic to the most successful corporation on the planet, constantly being probed by hackers.

They are so married to this privacy stance that even the hint of that coming out would decimate their userbase.

Most normal Data collection is already ignored

Either willfully because it got normalized or not really willfully since “they wouldnt do it because what if it came Out?”

Well… They do it. It is known. But since Apple always was pretty culty the members dont really care and everyone that cares doesnt use Apple, because they know they steal Data and dont believe the pinky promise they wouldnt sell it.

Look, I like that you’re a crititical thinker. Now read the disclaimer at the bottom:

Privacy Exposure ratings and summaries are AI-generated assessments based on publicly available privacy policies

That’s right, you quoted slop to a cult member!

Health data is not stored, are you mad. That would violate every country’s privacy law other than the USA and China.

Ok, I’m hopping off here, but

                    Manik Berry

With a Master’s degree in journalism, Manik writes about big tech and has a keen eye for political-tech news. In his free time, he’s browsing the Kindle store for new stuff read. Manik also adores his motorcycle and is looking for new routes on weekends. He likes tea and cat memes. You can reach him at manik.berry@fossbytes.com

This journalist tells you apple stores health data. Aside from that being very vague (your DOB could possibly be considered a “health data”), he provides no evidence or sources at all, like any decent internet journalist trying to grift of a blog to survive.

The internet will always tell you you’re right, the question is: why would they and how could they benefit from that, when they stand so much to benefit from not doing it, let alone save themselves the hassle of dealing with that data.

Anyway, another day on the internet arguing between two people who absolutely won’t see the other’s viewpoint. What it is to be human.

no one said apple doesn’t collect any data at all. The fact that your article says apple collects some data relevant to their services, which people choose to use, does not mean they are listening to everything on your device’s microphones.
