Please look up the European rape crisis. 10 years ago my instructor told us how unprotected women are in Europe because they can’t own a gun. In the past 10 years rapes increased by 150%! The threat is real and protection is needed

Edit: I find it sad that people don’t dispute the statistics and just continue to report me. Facts vs feelings and such

The US is literally worse than the entire EU despite having fewer inhabitants lmao

      https://www.statista.com/statistics/191137/reported-forcible-rape-cases-in-the-usa-since-1990/

In 2024, there were 127,527 reported rape cases in the United States

      https://www.statista.com/statistics/1072770/number-of-rapes-in-europe/

      France: 42,000

      Germany: 13,000

      Sweden: 9000

      Spain: 4500

Rest combined: <30,000 (roughly estimated by me)

Edit: The statistic does not include all EU nations. Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands are the largest one’s missing from what I can see.

The EU has 100,000,000 more inhabitants by the way.

Also most rapes are domestic. That’s also the primary reason for the lack of reports - people do not want their marriage to end, their families/friends to turn their backs etc. What use is a gun here?

No more arguing, we need to come together as a community, my post trying to unite:

Community, this morning I see a lot of Anti-gun and Anti-stand your ground sentiment. I think it’s unfair to bring what this woman did with her gun to the conversation. We should feel more empathy for her situation in that moment. She felt threatened and she dealt with that issue the way she was trained.

As a Fuck Cars community we need to focus on this situation as an example of how the car creates animosity between people. If both individuals arrived there in a different form of transportation, they may have not crossed paths like this. However, because it was in a car it created friction. I experience this friction in my day to day life and that’s why I hate cars. Please let’s focus on that as a community, let’s focus on how the automobile divides us, makes us angry, tears apart our community. That’s the point of this post, IMHO.

Thank you, and I’m sorry for arguing all morning. Good day.

My objection is that all you added to the conversation was the words “European rape crisis”. Absolutely nothing more of value was added by attaching a screenshot of an idiot machine’s reply to those words.

I’m definitely not anti-gun. While I’m largely undecided on the issues of “stand your ground” and “castle doctrine”, I don’t really see a problem with how the woman in this case handled the situation, so you’re barking up the wrong tree by replying to me with any of that.

          Furthermore:

I think it’s unfair to bring what this woman did with her gun to the conversation.

I don’t understand how you can say that with a straight face when the post title and news article headline is “Woman who shot man during confrontation over parking space won’t be charged”.

              Let me explain:

I enjoy spirited driving, track days, go karting, and some other parts of cars and car culture. At the same time, I believe public transit needs to be dramatically, massively reprioritized over passenger cars. And I think trucks and SUVs should require a commercial driver’s license to legally operate.

And I put my money where my mouth is by gladly paying the ~$1000 per year RTA excise when renewing tabs for the expensive sporty electric wagon I own, which funds Sound Transit 3, in my opinion the nation’s most ambitious and impactful transit expansion.

I also often use the light rail to get to and from Seattle proper from the suburbs. And I very often have friends come visit whom I pick up and drop off at that same transit station.

When I travel abroad I go out of my way to refuse taxis, much preferring to use transit or even walking when that’s a reasonable alternative.

And at home I, at nearly all costs, avoid ever using any “rideshare” platforms.

You’re so lost in hate and losing to facts and logic that you continue to argue in circles
