I was hoping for a resignation… now I have to migrate again which is annoying but “c’est la vie.”
Buy a domain, have your email address be tied to that domain and set it so the DNS record redirects to the email provider of your choice.
You can now swap email providers without having to change your email address.
is it really this easy?? how is this not a widespread thing?
Been doing it for nearly two decades. Yes, it really is that easy
For most people who are not into tech, grasping the concepts required for setup would be difficult. However, if you can mostly understand the first sentence in my comment above, it should be fairly straightforward.
Because it’s not super easy. DNS management isn’t a button-click process, for the most part: if you’re trying to control your data and care about privacy, there’s no super easy service out there for you. You need to find a domain registrar, buy the domain you want, and configure it yourself. The help your email provider gives you to configure it might be grammatically different from how your registrar wants it entered, so it can be an annoying process.
It’s not rocket surgery, but it’s not just “enter name and password and IMAP server name and voila” either.
