I’m just impressed he can look at a truck and tell it’s 49 tons - which would be a HELL of a heavy truck. Do they even have those?
That’s about as big as they come these days. Mining companies need’em bigger. The 4,000 hp “Caterpillar 797F has a rated gross machine weight of 1,375,000 lb (623,690 kg); body weight of 94799 lb.” https://www.cat.com/en_US/products/new/equipment/off-highway-trucks/mining-trucks/18093014.html
It’s a weight class in China, anyone can tell they’re 49 tons because that’s what these trucks are marketed as.
In the US the heaviest class is ~36 tons, in much of Europe it’s 40 tons, and 49 is not that much more. But in Scandinavia you can find much heavier ones, up to 76 tons in Finland.
Is that just the motors and its batteries?
