In this week’s Elie v. U.S., our justice correspondent asks why the media is obsessing over Obama’s Cheesecake Factory joke while largely ignoring allegations of Trump’s sexual assaults. Plus: Republicans prepare to cry election fraud.
In the US, it’s probably because most of the mainstream media is owned by conservatives.
Examples:
Rupert Murdoch owns Fox News, NY Post, and the Wall Street Journal.
CNN and CBS News (as weak as a number of other channels) are run by the Ellison family. There has been talk of making them sell CNN to someone else, but it hasn’t happened yet.
The Washington Post is owned by Amazon mogul, Jeff Bezos.
The Hill and NewsNation are owned by Nextstar (who also own the largest number of broadcast tv stations). Founded and run by Perry Sook.
What’s amusing is that for decades, conservatives have been howling about the “liberal media”.
It was absurd when you had about 3 major corporate networks and a cable station like CNN doing all of the gatekeeping, but maybe a bit of diversity among the various papers - but it was hard to really tell people about the absurdity of that without the internet.
But now it’s absolutely cartoonish to claim there is a “liberal media”. And yet the right still do it.
New York Times is probably one of the last papers with the resources and the tradition of at least doing something akin to reality-based reporting, but they love to play the both-sides game. To the right, though, they represent some far-left fringe, LOL.

That’s because they’re brain dead. “The hat is red, the brain is dead.” And yes, some are malicious little pricks that knowingly spread bullshit for bait, trolling, and likes/subscriptions for their blather factories.
Socially progressive, economically conservative. I.e. “It’s distasteful to be openly racist but I’ll vote for policies that inflict economic harm on poor minorities.”

It’s honestly one of the most damaging and insidious things the media has successfully convinced the average American of
The NY Times has been carrying water for the right at the very least since the war in Iraq.
It’s insane how the right has been able to convince people that they’re “far left.”
The Overton Window in the US is so unbelievably far to the right.
The House of Mouse isn’t conservative, but it tends to be complicit as fuck. Just go with the flow.
Corporations don’t have ideologies, only financial incentives and strategic marketing.
Disney is “liberal” or “progressive” when it’s convenient for revenue, nothing more.
Read The Extended Universe How Disney Killed the Movies and Took Over the World. Disney is one of the shittiest companies.
Socially progressive, economically conservative. I.e. “It’s distasteful to be openly racist but I’ll vote for policies that inflict economic harm on poor minorities.”
…you say about the company that made Song of the South, among tons of other examples.
“…and they control all the media you consume so they decide all news and information you get to hear:
THEY GOT YOU BY THE BALLS!
…
It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
