People will watch slop-like content with poor production value because at least there is intent and purpose.

i kinda think thats what makes art “art” in the first place. art to me is the intentional expression or evocation of emotion through a medium

Ideally, art should express something that words can not.

Writing a prompt using words to describe what art to generate is missing the point.

would consider text a form of art. literature.

If you can make a compelling thing to read in a couple sentences, that’s great.

If you use it as a prompt to write a book, then I rather read the original 2 sentences than waste time with a book that can be summarized in 2 sentences.

Yes, poetry can be art too, but that’s because the use of the words creates meaningful associations to something that expresses more than the words themselves describe.

AI reads the prompt the same way that we read poetry and then delivers its attempts to describe the associations that it learned. At best, AI could recreate the role of a really obnoxious poetry critic, but it will never be the artist.

Yeah, LLMs cannot learn and that is fundamental to their base algorithms of diffusion and backpropagation. Instead, they can only be trained to asymptotically approach human communication thru the use of latent space, a method of algorithmically abstracting concepts.

They can only ever combine concepts they have been trained on, but cannot continue to build upon those compositions like actual artists do.

I reckon, the medium of literature is probably more like the author or reader’s (shared?) imagination, the words are just the chisel used to shape what you imagine, and if it works you get something like the experience they wanted.

The ai can copy the tools, but does it think about how it is shaping your imagination with them? I doubt, probably not current LLMs, only in as far as they might choose to plagiarise work of someone who had some vision, but how can we know?

I mean, that’s basically what Shakespeare did with his monkey farm, isn’t it? Or did he sell that to Jorge Luis Borges to fill the worlds most useless library?

Same is probably true of an art photograph, you’d think flock, or google street cams , or anpr cams would create loads of art photos. But they’re not aiming to captures something extra that isn’t technically in the image (feelings, mood, , culture ) but that the audience can read into it, based on style, lighting , colouring or context.

Good time to mention the movie on the right was made by a mother son duo on like no money. They couldn’t even make posters for theaters but this just started a trend of theaters drawing their own amateur posters for the showings.

A raw example of people creating just for creation’s sake.

I think there’s plenty of cases where neuron activation is a product of pure a aesthetic experience. I think the wrong idea here isn’t that AI can make art, but that art is the only form of media humans desire.

So bad it’s art. Cog suckers don’t understand that the flaws in the animation makes it more human. I wish I could buy it legally, it’s a great movie!

After watching this, I am more convinced than ever that cultures all have same the qualities.

Chinese audiences celebrating it’s so bad it’s good of Niu La is the same as American audiences doing the same thing with the Room.

Because you need to prompt 500 times to get one scene the way you wanted

For example “the 8 bit guy” on YouTube got an existential crisis and made an awful “movie” and in the behind the scenes he complained that he had to prompt like 30 times per scene and chose the better of the worst to create his unwatchable abomination

If someone wants to watch his 50 minutes of mashed up slop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ7j7XIW1zo

The compute cost would be more, but a lot of it is getting the AI to generate something semi-passable, which the AI is not designed for. It is instead designed like a slot machine.

But let’s assume it had the ability to generate not only semi-passable slop, but real art. It would require a lot more interactions than just prompting, and that would immediately take away the power fantasy of AI bros being able to feel like Steve Jobs or any other CEO, who were called “creators” for being nothing more than the idea guys.

I found an article and was gonna quote it to talk about the 100 or so people over two years trying this and then quoting how they were hoping for a blockbuster to spawn more and then joke about how far it fell.

However I noticed at the bottom of the article it disclosed that it was written with AI … so, bleh.

The original release of 牛来 did not do well, but Chinese netizens discovered it was created by a mother/son duo and rallied behind it. This lead to releases in more theaters and people watching it for support even though it is… not a good movie.

When a human makes garbage, it’s entertaining because we (or at least I) acknowledge that as part of being human, we make mistakes, interpret thungs differently, and have our own flaws. When a computer makes garbage, that’s just what it does. I would much rather every new movie to ever be created be The Room, Troll 2, Birdemic, and every other bad movie than get AI movies.

Probably 3 star pile, like the rating 3 out of 100.

Also apparently it’s an actual archaeological site of the same name in China of a culture in bronze age. Site is called Three Star Mound

Hey, some light sci-fi movie on some time travel, astronaut came to ancient civilisations to rescue humanity or something plot: I’d be even up for that. But that AI slop makes my eyes bleed and if the visuals are anything to go by probably the whole story is slopped as well. Isn’t it?
