This just a day or two after that article about how AI is going to allow us to predict the weather weeks/months in advance.

Get ready for weather slop reports.

    A) He wants his techbros to put their satellites in place of us govt.

    B) He believes that removing weather satellites will eliminate hurricanes.

Just like Covid numbers, he wanted to stop testing because testing shows the numbers going up. No tests, no numbers to go up. Standard GOP party line; lie, deflect, obfuscate.

If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few [COVID] cases, if any,

Trump honestly believes that if you close your eyes it will go away. That or he just wants to stop providing evidence for his enemies (the American people).

Someone should tell him that golf courses rely on weather forecasts to make the courses better and run them cheaper.

    Or, you know, impeach him…

Which…face it, every gaslighting anti-scientific idiot and those with the engineer’s disease have had on their wish list for-fucking-ever. Since before “politically correct” morphed into “woke”.

Some of them probably have a permanent erection after the dismantling of NREL and NCAR.

They fucking hated it when those smarter than they are could point to things like government agencies tracking climate change. Now, they cannot. At least not in the USA. Guess we’ll have to rely on more advanced countries now.

Since donnie dumbass and the conservative movement is hellbent on taking us backwards.

You can find various discussions about engineer’s syndrome or engineer’s disease all over the place, but once you see it yourself, you’ll never unsee it. It may be you’ve already seen it in action, just never had it named.

          A for instance:

          https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10812804

          https://thunkshow.com/2019/07/24/172.-‘Engineer’s-Syndrome’-and-Learning-Techniques.html

I went for a Computer Science degree, and took so much of the same coursework as engineers, and it was a near-constant experience in talking with a haughty engineering student - and that’s when they were just in the training phase. This was prior to the dot-com run-up to the dot-com bubble, so Computer Science was definitely thought of (by engineers) as some kind of red-headed step-child with no real point to it - so I think that dialed up these sort of anecdotal interactions in school.

It’s not just engineers, though. I’ve seen cases where doctors (of the MD type) do this sort of thing.

Anyway, it’s particularly hilarious to see, say, an EE or ME do this with politics, the humanities, evolution, vaccines, or climate change.

Should be obvious but it’s not the website nor even the forecast, but they all depend on having sufficient data

The weather has been so fucked lately it’s really hard to compare them. I see a spread of of over 10 degree differences between open meteo, Google, AccuWeather, and wunderground.

Tomorrow AccuWeather says 78, OpenMeteo says 81, and Google says 74.

I will say open source apps default to OpenMeteo, im not sure how to compare what a site predicts vs actual weather.

im not sure how to compare what a site predicts vs actual weather.

that’s kind of tough because the forecast changes at least every day. which forecast do you measure off of? the one that morning? the one the day before? the one a week before? all of them? wunderground has a historical weather tab you can at least get the actual data from but if i’m getting that invested i’m setting up a local weather station.

At first if look at the day of. On the day of prediction how do the high and lows compare against the predicted values for that day. It’s kind of a check, how much can I trust what they say. One store is saying I need to prep for rain, another that it’ll be clear, they aren’t usually that extreme but it’s come close.

And I’ve considered getting a weather station and doing my own comparison since some stations arent very close.

i have preferred wunderground for a while, but they are not what they were before they got bought out. also they’re based in San Francisco.

i’ve been looking for a new weatherwebsite for like a decade now. i have not looked very hard, but it’s a back burner project

The weather channel for my area a while back changed their icons, and the new ones are utterly useless samey shit. Can’t tell if its even forecast to rain now without sitting around for the verbal report, because the icon doesn’t really show rain (technically it does, but the drips look almost the same as the beams from the sun peaking out from the clouds, so best of luck if your eyes aren’t amazing or you don’t have time to study the pixels, especially on a smaller tv), so now its only good for clouds or no clouds, and the temp.

So we really don’t even have a clue how badly wrong it is now. That’s fun. It feels really intentional, too, like the change happened shortly after the prior funding cut.

      at least a decade

My trust in the american government and the us population as a whole…because I’ll never trust/like/respect either of these ever, ever again.

(I appreciate that you said “at least” but to me that suggests there’s an option for a rethink in the future. However, nope, there’s no “at least” in all this, there is only never!)
