Holy shit this has been a long time coming and it’s about bloody time!
I’ve been getting proper fed up of seeing new builds with a token one or two panels, presumably a requirement for getting an A rating, only for them to be put slap-bang in the middle of the roof so that the owner is unable to add capacity without ripping the whole thing out and starting again. It reeks of malicious compliance and they’ve been allowed to get away with it for far too long.

I love this news, but I wish we revisited the Liberal Democrats’ efforts in 2010 to insulate the existing housing stock. My mum’s 1970s house got loft insulation for free from the coalition government and it’s now so good at retaining heat.
I now live in a Victorian house that is extremely expensive to heat and I have to have windows/vents open to prevent damp. I wish we got free loft insulation…
If you’re not renting, have you looked into a small MVHR unit?
It draws air in and out of the house across a matrix, which heats/cools.
This means that the air gets refreshed, without cooling it too much.

I’m not sure solar panels are a higher priority than insulation in existing and new stock, but they have come down in price quite a bit over the last decade so i guess it’s not so bad. Heat pumps though are a net good thing especially with the heat waves in recent years.
Are there current plans being executed to build battery banks to absorb all this solar?
