Landlords using unqualified labour to cut costs? Yeah, I know that experience very well, it could have killed someone.

2·4 days agoUse VMs. Depending on their setup/requirements depends on which OS can be in the VM.
As Churchill put it…
Roads are made, streets are made, services are improved, electric light turns night into day, water is brought from reservoirs a hundred miles off in the mountains — all the while the landlord sits still. Every one of those improvements is affected by the labor and cost of other people and the taxpayers. To not one of these improvements does the land monopolist contribute, and yet, by every one of them the value of his land is enhanced. He renders no service to the community, he contributes nothing to the general welfare, he contributes nothing to the process from which his own enrichment is derived…The unearned increment on the land is reaped by the land monopolist in exact proportion, not to the service, but to the disservice done.

3·7 days agoShame, as salt makes things taste so much better and is one good option for preserving produce. Lactoferments such as cabbage plus salt and time becomes sauerkraut.

31·8 days agoI and many others would put up with having to live with someone else for a few days/weeks of the year for a free house. So I doubt they will be abandoned unless you are no longer legally allowed to live in it.
Plus having an otter in the garden for a while would be cute.

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Technology Connections - You are being misled about renewable energy technology.English
27·8 days agoNot finished it yet but it annoys me so much that for some reason it is VASTLY cheaper for me to buy a briefcase or two full of batteries for my house than it is for the same to be done in bulk at the scale of the grid.
Just batteries would cut my energy costs to about a third of their current rate by charging them at cheaper off peak prices. Isn’t it insane that this is a feature of the current energy market?

9·9 days agoI know some people that have never filled a tank to the top, they always just put a specific amount of money worth of fuel in. Every time I filled up when I had a motorcycle I would fill it until no more would fit because not filling it to the top just means I need to visit petrol stations more often.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•A Cleveland, Ohio, homeowner is fed up with dealing with crash after crash into his homeEnglish
3·9 days agoPut the stones back in position, pile the earth back in. Sure its some work but its easily done on your own in an afternoon rather than clear structural damage to your house that will cost a shitload more.
Something like this.
I suppose it depends on the product, but if you are buying chocolate you want it to taste of chocolate, not nothing.
But it also means its a food quality type of thing to avoid, which realistically is probably a better way to get to most people than the environment that they don’t seem to care about if it saves them even a single penny. Tell them it tastes worse.

6 tons on holidays this year? Well oil companies and China exist so I will ignore all personal responsibility.
