Nixon used the southern strategy to make an appeal to racists to restore The Good Ole’ Boy Network which is how people in power or aspire to be in power think the world is supposed to work. He got elected and could then start “fixing” “things.” His impeachment and removal stepping down was a very public example of someone not in the good ole’ boy system disrupted the power structure. Inevitably people bought their way into that system and his removal wiped out the “investments” they made. There’s probably some feeling that the Deep State stole their money, and they want reprecussions for the theft.
