Inhuman corporate entities should not be allowed to own intellectual property and exclude people from it. They should not be allowed to pretend computer programs are inhuman AI stooges to do it for them either. Intellect is, until proven otherwise, the sole province of real, individual humans and must remain protected as such.

It’s like going back to the bad part of the early 2000s when skilled SEOs would game the algorithm to push their shitty websites to the top of the results, forcing everyone to navigate several pages of results to get ‘real’ useful content. Only this time it’s the search engines themselves doing it intentionally, and the slop-sites are everywhere.
We’ll see how that works out when nobody creates new answers to new questions. Ten years from now LLMs have nothing but hallucinated trash for training data. How do you troubleshoot anything at that point is a mystery.

I’m in college for the second time around in my 30s and the lack of critical thinking is astounding. We’ve been doing game dev for a year now and there are still classmates who don’t know how to web search stuff. A couple months ago I asked someone to open the file explorer and they didn’t know what that was. There’s something going on where some of them simply don’t want to think beyond the most surface level stuff and any question further is “I don’t know and so I’m not going to look it up”. Worries me. I’m trying my best to get them excited to learn and use critical thinking but I’m also just a student I’ve got my own stuff to be worrying about too
My stepdaughter is 8. When she asks a question, my first response is usually “what do you think?” And then once she gives her thought process then we go through how to get the right answer. I don’t want to just give her answers, I want to give her tools to find the answers. And I want to make sure she at least tries first before she gets help.

If I got bored with Space Invaders and Radar Rat Race, I would type in a program from a German magazine and I didn’t even know German, so sometimes it would be a graphics demo, sometimes a calendar and occasionally a game. I would usually have about an hour left until bedtime when the computer would be turned off and the memory obviously cleared.
