I’m in college for the second time around in my 30s and the lack of critical thinking is astounding. We’ve been doing game dev for a year now and there are still classmates who don’t know how to web search stuff. A couple months ago I asked someone to open the file explorer and they didn’t know what that was. There’s something going on where some of them simply don’t want to think beyond the most surface level stuff and any question further is “I don’t know and so I’m not going to look it up”. Worries me. I’m trying my best to get them excited to learn and use critical thinking but I’m also just a student I’ve got my own stuff to be worrying about too
My stepdaughter is 8. When she asks a question, my first response is usually “what do you think?” And then once she gives her thought process then we go through how to get the right answer. I don’t want to just give her answers, I want to give her tools to find the answers. And I want to make sure she at least tries first before she gets help.
