[They caved, dammit.]
[Everyone hated this]
Ed Sheeran really needs the money, guys. Don’t pounce on a poor kid like Ed Sheeran. I’m sure that if he had a social safety net, he would also be willing to protest against active genocide like the upperclass wealthman, Macklemore.
Joking aside, is anyone surprised by music venue owners being the shittiest people in existence?
I’ll give him an inch, because he does come from a place where they’ll jail you for defending Palestine, but also, he’s got money, he has nothing to fear. Ultimately, this is pure cowardice.
he’s from the uk!
oh that, that’s for supporting one specific banned group. all other Palestine support is not restricted. be careful, there’s a lot of anti uk disinformation going around
Yeah… branding an org a terrorist group for some graffiti is a choice.
You mean the group that was designated as a terrorist organization for spray painting some jets? Seems like they were using speech to me.
Macklemore said on Instagram that several U.S. venues told the promoter they would prohibit him from performing as Sheeran’s opening act for the Loop tour
What did Sheeran have to do with it?
I’m sure if he threatened not to perform the venues would back down immediately. Sheeran is hardly powerless in this situation.
It’s sheeran’s tour that is continuing with neither pause nor Macklemore, his friend. I blame Kraft 90% and Sheeran 10%.
50/50 imho. No shit he was going to get pushback in this toxic political climate. But instead of standing up for his friend and what’s right, dude just capitulated while using their own propagandized language against Macklemore.
It’s at least partly misplaced aggression to attach so much to him. Attack the source of compulsion and reprimand capitulants and accessories, imo. Then promote those with real loyalty. Genghis khan built an empire on it, so there has to be something behind it.
I get it, but I also think that those that benefit the most from our society, have a larger butden than most when it comes to speaking up about these issues.
Ed Sheeran has enough money, and has enough resources that he could take a stand himself. I could give it more of a pass had it not been for the him saying Macklemore’s words were offensive to some. I’ve heard what he said and it’s very clear it’s a supportive and positive message.
It’s a tough situation without a doubt, and in any other times it would be not a big deal. But man, what a shit state the world is in where standing up against dead kids is an offensive message that could end a music tour.
It’s not aggression, it’s deep regret, sadness and desperation for some humanity in the world.
I subscribe the 10/20/40/20/10 theory of human behavior, so I see the opportunist that he is where to go from there. To paraphrase, 10% of people are selfless, 20 prefer benevolence, 40 go with the flow, 20 prefer selfishness, and 10 are perfectly selfish. This is particularly relevant for public figures.
Give Sheeran money and he’ll say whatever. Give or take away his money and he’ll be cajoled one way or another. He’ll basically never rise to any occasion because that is not who he is, and that’s not who most public figures are. Because it is more often useful to appear benevolent, celebrities tend to appear selfless. There’s nothing to it beyond that.
To phrase this another way, take away the stick and provide your own carrot to gain the totality of the central 40% in an instant. People like this fence-riding fuckstick. There’s really nothing else to it.
“Friend”
Oops I forgot about the money truck backing into my driveway, guess them kids deserve to be bombed
learning about how being politically nuteral is impossible in an extremist environment. sitting on the fence just means you support the outcome of ‘might make right’ extremists.
Fuck Pink, fuck Ed, free Palestine!
ed could make a legendary move here. but i guess he needs every last cent, at the cost of a shitty legacy. shame on that soulless ginger
Catch-22.
- Cancel the concert and be called politically correct because it happened after a tourmate said Palestine
- Go on anyway despite tourmate unable to perform at some venues, and be called a shill for Israel
One of those isn’t a bad thing.
Even if he had demographic data that said a majority of his audience is Zionists (or ignorant sympathizers), being on “the clearly correct side now and on the right side of history for the future” versus “being complicit to genocide” isn’t much of a “Catch-22”.
Bro has enough money and fame that he’s set for life even if his contract said that he had to hand over all his money if he cancelled the rest of the tour. Even if he was set back so far that he could only play local pubs and small venues, and give lessons, he’d be golden.
Zero reason to keep going on the tour. He could stand with Macklemore and throw his weight around or just give in like a little baby.
