President Donald Trump’s Republican midterm convention in Dallas featured a bizarre video that claimed he was chosen by God for a special purpose.

The video, which was also used in 2024, is a modified version of Paul Harvey’s 1978 “So God Made a Farmer” speech, but with a twist: In this one, God makes Trump.

“And on June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’” the narrator says. “So God gave us Trump.”

Critics were stunned by the video’s blatant idolatry, especially on a stage where speaker after speaker had attacked Democrats about faith while posturing as defenders of Christianity.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.

He actually fits the definition of the antichrist more. I guess the other ones claiming he is a literal gift from god could be the false prophets.

There’s a reason they are losing their fucking minds trying to hide Talarico from Christian Republicans, he makes the hypocrisy of MAGA painfully obvious and they can’t handle it.

Christian Nationalism doesn’t have anything to do with Christ; rather, it’s a tribal identity you can opt into, if you can shut down your capacity for critical thought.

As the article notes, the video is a repeat from two years ago. There’s really no reason to be shocked by this display now.

I mean, if you saw the AI slop he’s posted where he is jesus healing the sick, and that’s hardly the only one I guess this prick is posting sometimes a slop or meme a minute on his late night sessions, he must have a whole media team on it.

By all rights, these religious people should reject him for their faith, and in not doing so give lie to their stated beliefs.

Obviously they think that it’s ok because he’s doing stuff they think Jesus wants, like bringing about turmoil in the middle east to usher in the rapture where the earth will be drowned in lakes of blood and fire, (finally right?,) after the faithful get brought to heaven.

Elsewhere, at the congressional medal of honor place he visited recently, he said he wanted one more than anything. He doesn’t understand why he, the president, can’t give himself the Congressional medal of honor.

Despite never serving in the military. And of course, the fact that since he’s not congress he can’t himself make an act of congress. Can’t make this shit up, it wouldn’t be quite so stupid if we did. Or as arrogant as the case is to a large degree.

How much you want to bet that Congress awards it to him anyway since Republicans control all of Congress? That would be a royal “f*ck you” to active, former, and deceased service members everywhere. Could not imagine a more clear basis for outrage from Americans everywhere than that.

The mental gymnastics really wouldn’t be that hard to do.

Commander and Chief of the military>saved us from drugs coming from South America>won the war in Iran 3 times in a year>profit

Remember when he tore down part of the white house for essentially no reason? That was a way bigger insult to the nation

Who cares if he steals a little piece of metal? He does that all the time, he loves stealing tokens and trophies. No one with half a brain would ever be confused and believe that he somehow earned the FIFA trophy and congressional medal of Honor, and a purple heart and whatever else he wants to stick on a shelf

It’s embarrassing, for both him and the county, but it’s entirely meaningless. It’s just a piece of metal if you don’t earn it

They are talking about renaming a ship too, maybe an aircraft carrier even, named after this black cook in pearl harbour that did all this heroism stuff, for the president too.

Will congress be that craven and dishonorable? Absolutely I would agree, in a lame duck session, not before midterms.

I find it hard to believe anyone is surprised by anything Trump does at this point and these clickbait titles are explicitly used to provoke shock.

That isn’t realistic though. We settle into the new normal whether we want to or not. That’s just how it works. We need something else to change that normal, other than outrage and emotion which will adapt.

Criticisms of Trump do not matter to Trump’s base.

Among all the things to be outraged about this doesn’t register. But I’m a godless heathen.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Americans invented the tent revival and the televangelist, and this is the ultimate product of that comfort with blasphemy it fostered. There’s nothing Christian about a lot of American Christians. It’s Kayfabe, regardless of whether they believe it or not.
