The Samsung I’m not too worried about, it hasn’t seen a firmware update in at least 3 years. Plus the screen is cracked anyway. We’re gonna get rid of it and put the Vizio in its place, then move the 65" LG to where the Vizio was (living room). After I go through the LG’s firmware and kill everything I can.

Legislate required hardware switches for: Cameras Microphones Bluetooth Wifi etc… Then go ahead, put your surveillance stuff in. Unfortunately I will never see it because I live in USA, but I can daydream.

There won’t be any meaningful regulation until information stolen via these kinds of unlawful surveillance leads to a very violent public event, and even that might not be enough. This is America after all, and we love our violence and tragedy theatre.
The
illegal privacy violations‘smart TV features’ are way, way worse than you probably think. I’d encourage everyone to read up on it and, if you have a smart TV, educate yourself on how to turn off ACR and/or make it a habit of unplugging your TV when you don’t use it.I also made a video on it for my YT channel, if anyone wants to learn more.
My first thought was, “Well, just don’t buy a TV with those features,” but that’s becoming increasingly hard to do.

Look at the products in your pockets and on your wrists too. Everything is logged. Its terrifying.
My wrists are bare or there’s a solar analog watch. My smartphone runs GrapheneOS. None of them logs anything.
I run a Casio F91W w/ a Sensor Watch Pro board. It’s pretty neat. Battery life is 1-2 years depending on usage (I’m 5 months in, down from 3.1V to 2.58V with a LOT of tinkering; still chugging along).
10/10 would recommend. This is what a “smart” watch should be.

I love to wear normal watches again so I gave up my trackers. Need a local only band, Garmin wre close but without GPS it needs constant comms.
Sensor Watch is fun. Mine has an accelerometer which lets you do neat things like tap the watch to increment/decrement the stopwatch and timer. It’s got a basic pedometer, too, plus a few games like Endless Runner, Coin Flip, and a Moon Lander kinda thing.

It’s good to see that this gets the traction and public attention it deserves, and hopefully this leads to further discussions and investigations into other smart devices and companies. Not only these companies’ capabilities of spying on you, but other people like bad actors, or even state actors like NSA. There’s already plenty of speculation about data being willingly handed over to the NSA, and I think a lot of it is true, unfortunately…
Well when the NSA pays then for the data of course they hand it over and it is completely legal.

That was (iirc) their first major foray into investigative reporting, and they haven’t pumped the brakes at all. They are unironically one of the most incisive investigative journalism outlets I’ve ever come across.
See their wording though they say the TV doesn’t record conversations. Didn’t the TV do speech to text which is not recording.
