The problem I keep thinking about with AI is that it’s being done in the stupidest possible way.

Now Altman wants to pay for one copy of each book such that he can own all the knowledge of that book such that future generations have to pay him to learn what was once free or low cost.

That was the big problem with crypto. It might’ve even started as a cool idea that would “democratize currency”. . . except the dickheads with all the fiat money could just buy and hoard it all like everything else, because they had all the money. An idea I really like is a form of degrowth with universal basic services that eventually leads to currency being unnecessary, but it unfortunately has to be directly initiated by governments and tends to require approval of business leaders since they can just lobby out those policies entirely in many countries and blocs.
Nah we just need to break up monopolies and tax robber baron assholes out of existence.

It is tragically ironic to me that the most-replaceable members of our society— in terms of their occupation— are the ones spearheading the efforts to replace everyone else.
