Wasn’t sure where to post this. I’ve been thinking about writing an article, but I won’t do that here.
My point is that, think about everything consumer-level AI is doing, and then multiply that by an order of magnitude and give it nukes. This is what armies have right now.
Am I being alarmist? I don’t think so, and if you think about it, that’s pretty fucking terrifying, right? Does *anyone^ disagree?
To be clear, by ‘toddlers’ I don’t mean preople like musk, I mean the AI themselves.
e: sorry, had to post this somewhere
Yeah, I don’t think they give them access to nukes. At leat not yet. That’s a scifi story. And we have lots of scifi stories like that from the 80s and 90s. It didn’t manifest in that form. Though Peter Thiel and Palantir are at it.
Current issue is the human toddlers in the white house waging war everywhere, and supporting other fascist regimes who kill people. And those other regimes themselves, of course.
And next issue: It wasn’t nukes… But we’ve been granting algorithms and big corporations all kinds of power to reshape society. It’s been a thing for about 15 years, I think? And the main reason why half the internet is shit now, half the people believe in some falsehoods, and are doing identity politics instead of something useful.
It’s not the scary nuke you can picture easily… Comes at really bad consequences as well, though.
Musk is a toddler, too, if far less innocent, but my point was the AI.
e: and I feel nobody is really mentioning this on the regular
title just describes the usa
That’s plenty, though, right? Every country isn’t doing this, but it only takes the big ones.
e: oh also, China
the usa is more than enough, they have been war on earth for decades
Responsible for 42% of the global arms trade even before trumpty dumpty, as well as being the country most likely to invade.
So, I don’t mean just the US here. Another country with that access to their own military via AI of their own standard military systems is also quite bad. Nobody is really watching let alone trying to evaluate this threat. (E)
AI doesn’t have access to nukes. Nukes are basically so old school its impossible to give it access unless you are extra dumbass which means only a matter of time. But the real problem is it will launch a nuke.
Yes, genuinely frightening how quickly AI was adopted for weapon targeting systems.
When those Iranian schoolgirls were slaughtered by the United States, I couldn’t help but assume that the morons setting the parameters just plugged in a load of photos of military bases to see what would happen.
We could live in a world in which machine learning is used by the military to exercise caution and protect civilians from human error and emotional reasoning, but instead it magnifies that hubris to devastating effect - even sheltering those responsible! “It was the all-knowing computer, how was I supposed to know?”
I think blaming the school bombing on AI is actually a cope.
Why wouldn’t the US target children as part of a terror campaign?
I think – for now – the general targets are being selected, maybe. Hard to say, when the difference between a military base and a girl’s school seem immaterial to the people pulling the trigger.
I think, even if the school was added to a target list by AI, a human looked at it and thought it was a good idea.
It’s not that they see no difference between a military base and a girl’s school, but rather, they want to target children.
