So I used Jellyfin mostly for series and movies, so far work great. However I got a couple of audiobooks I want to listen to on my way to work and Jellyfin stop working each time I close my screen. So yeah…
What are you using for music ?
Update : People suggest Finamp, which I installed on my phone and tried to make it work on my server. After rebuilding my audiobook library to a music library, Finamp didn’t find anything. I’ve restarted, update, etc.
Work out the problem in naming my library « Musique », now Finamp seems to be able to open it
Thanks for all your help 🤟 you rock
Update 2 : Finamp don’t seems to remember where I’ve finish my last listening 🤣 all that for this. Great app however
While I use plexamp/finamp for music and jellyfin/Plex for video, I use audiobookshelf for my audio books and it works amazingly well.
For Music and streaming, specially for hi-res audio. SACD etc streaming, take a look at lyrion music server. The best solution of the myriad I tried self-hosting. Supports podcasts and audiobooks as well
BookPlayer is another one for iOS
Jellyfin doesnt handle music quite as well as Navidrome does. Jellyfin is awesome for watchable media but it lacks a little on music. Navidrome handles artist metadata better. For clients, 100% Feishin on desktop, its just about perfect. On mobile, Castafiore or Resonus I think are two of the best. Finamp is great for a Jellyfin client on mobile but still it depends on the Jellyfin server which again doesnt handle metadata as well.
If you have an android phone, you’re welcome to use my app Stillshelf. It has two shells, one for audiobooks (audiobookshelf specifically) and the other for music (Navidrome).
I started using Navidrom as suggested by someone in the group. I do not have audio books but it has a spot for them. If you want to get all fancy like you can use the MusicBrainz Picard for tagging stuff differently (or something like that I am really feeling the glue and sealant they used to put down the laminate in my place right now) but AudioMuse-AI does something to (again really feeling it).
Next step is Navidrom or AudioBookshelf (self ?) but it’s late here. Also go take some air
Audiobookshelf for audiobooks and Navidrome for music.
For Jellyfin, I prefer Manet.
Overall, though, I keep my music in Navidrome rather than Jellyfin.
Well besides the excellent options already mentioned by others, there is also Finamp, a Jellyfin music player.
Others have also mentioned Symfonium which can play audio from a Jellyfin server as well, not only from a subsonic one like Navidrome.
So far Finamp doesn’t seems to find my music folder, I’m restarting my server. Will see
See if you can get it going. I’ve found it to be a wonderful tool to listen to music.
And yeah audiobookshelf is king for audio books. You’d have to tinker with jellyfin a lot to get half the features. Better to use something that just works out the box
I think I have found the problem, Finanp don’t seems to recognize Jellyfin Libraries not label « music »
Jellyfin stop working each time I close my screen.
screen of what? Laptop? Phone? Tablet?
it may just be a background permission problem
Phone
Yeah I’ve found those too. Thanks I’ve seems to have solved my issue
For music use Finamp or Symfonium. I’ve my music in directories and Finamp is fine.
I’m trying to make Finamp work
audiobookshelf for audiobooks specifically, with Lissen as the android client.
For music, Navidrome with Tempus as android client and Feishin as desktop client, all scrobbling to ListenBrainz.
My exact setup after trying a lot of different configurations.
Are you asking about music, or audiobooks specifically? I haven’t tinkered with audiobooks so am not sure if that’s handled differently…
For music I’ve been using Jellyfin as the server. On Android have tried a bunch of different apps, substreamer and Symfonium are the better apps. But I also like Fintunes, Jellify, and Resonus.
Fun fact: You can use most OpenSubsonic / Subsonic compatible apps with Jellyfin once you add the Subfin plugin (https://github.com/williamkray/subfin-plugin).
I’ve always liked Plex/Plexamp but have been using Jellyfin more lately and found Finamp to be pretty solid. I just wish it worked with Apple CarPlay.
So far Finamp don’t seems to find my Music folder. I’m trying restarting my server
I dont use Jellyfin, but I heard of some of the things it did and jellyfin sounded like a step above due to its dedicated music app and similar songs for playlists.
I use Navidrome as the server and Symfonium for the mobile app. It is by far the best option I have ever used in the 20 years of setting up a personal server. I used Subsonic before this but it was abandoned years ago and Navidrome is a fork of it. The amount of continuous effort put in and new features that still get released is fantastic. Im always excited when i see a new version drop.
