A group of conservative Democrats in the House tried to one-up Republicans this week with a competing piece of legislation aimed at condemning the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and socialism in “all its forms,” after the GOP proposed an anti-socialist resolution that called for the passage of their marquee voter suppression legislation.
Last week, Republican Rep. Jeff Crank (Colorado) introduced a resolution that calls for the “condemnation and denouncement of socialism.” It calls out DSA, condemning the recent wave of DSA members running for Congress and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and says that DSA’s ideology is “incompatible with American values.”
The resolution clunkily segues into a call for the House to pass the GOP’s SAVE America Act, which puts burdensome restrictions on voting regarding ID requirements and proof of citizenship that civil rights advocates say would be the worst voter suppression bill ever passed by Congress.
The resolution reportedly infuriated some Democrats in the House — not because of the sweeping condemnation of an increasingly popular ideology among Democrats, but because the resolution contained the clause about passing SAVE America.

You’re right, I’m sorry.
I forgot this was the only time democrats have ever worked with the GOP to spite the working class ever.
Completely fucking unprecedented.
We can’t afford purity tests in an existential fight. It doesn’t matter where they stand on economic policies, healthcare, the environment, Israel, or whatever. All that matters is if they will directly fight against the current fascists in power.
Cool they can do the things that make republicans fascists so long as they’re pledging fealty to the democratic party. Got it.
You understand healthcare, the environment, civil rights, and to an extant, the economy, ARE existential issues for most people right?
The reason to vote democrat isn’t because they’re not the GOP in name, its because they typically have better policy than republicans on such issues. To say they don’t matter is disingenuous.
None of those things are what define fascism. Fascism at its core is defined by the destruction of democratic representation and the rule of law. Without those any other issue you personally care about cannot be addressed.
So yes, the SAVE act is fascism because it erodes voting rights. Mark Wayne Mullen threatening to send federal agents to polling places is fascism for the same reason. ICE agents assaulting and killing people with no legal recourse against them is fascism because it erodes the rule of law as does Trump signing blatantly unconstitutional executive orders or defying judicial orders are fascism.
The environment and healthcare are important. I got my degree in environmental science for fucks sake. I understand that they are existential threats. But the threat of fascism will kill us first if we don’t smash it with maximum force now.
