    Some idiot politicians have already told us not to worry, because we can use electric heating… which is mostly generated by gas in winter.

        Eh, ok, the plurality is gas in Germany, same as in the Netherlands.

        But any extra electric power produced is entirely gas here in the Netherlands, because those are the plants with excess capacity. Germany might have options in (brown)coal, I don’t really know. The point was, if we stop using gas for heating houses and switch to electric, we will be using gas to generate that extra electricity.

        And yes, I am aware that using electric heat pumps will mean we use less gas than we do now, but the people who would have to switch over will not suddenly have a heat pump installed.
