A Computer Virus normally targets the weaknesses of an operating system in order to do horrible things to it’s user. But what happens with a multi-trillion dollar company spends a decade slowly changing their own operating system to act just like a virus?
I mean it was spyware for a while now. Just waiting for the secenario, some people already joked about.( This “we encrypted your files so you switch to copilot os” meme/satire screenshot.)
According to one commenter on the linked video, that had happened to someone

dang. windows literally is ransomware now. Surely this is the year of the linux desktop??
One can hope :3. I don’t think there’s gonna be a mass windows exodus any time soon though, the majority of people are either too entrenched, or don’t know/care enough about computing to consider alternatives
For me all it now takes is that the games and software are able to be used on linux
I am sure that you can sue microsoft if they do that (At least in europe, i think)
Certainly :3. I think that was pointed out in the replies to the comment. Of course the practicality of actually suing microsoft may be more complicated even in europe
Stallman was right. IMHO.
The surveilance economy was a grey zone in ancient time. Few did anything to put up a fight. In modern times it is normalized.
And still it forms the central cogs in the corporate machine.
I’ve been saying this since the Mac vs Windows flame wars of the early 90s.
Windows is so entranched in people’s lives, they’d still be most used OS if the new update started shooting their house pets in the head.
