There’s a separate thread for the Senate elections, because that’s far, far easier to track than the House races and the Gubernatorial races.
Consider this thread open to everything else! House, Governor, state and local measures, everything else!
Polls start closing at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific. My plan is to be obsessively posting results as they come in.
Current standings:
US House of Representatives:
Republicans: 218
Democrats: 214
Vacant: 2
Independent: 1
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) resigned 04/14/2026.
Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL20) resigned 04/21/26.
Rep. Kevin Kiley (CA3) flipped from R to I in March, 2026.
Every seat is up for re-election with 218 necessary for a majority.
Governors:
26 Republicans
24 Democrats
There are 36 seats to be decided this election, 19 of which are open races, meaning no incumbent is defending.
Pretty damning that this election is even exciting.
i hope you guys can get trough this without bloodshed
Reporting from California, I think we’re gonna get a little fucked over by prop 40 (one-time tax on billionaires). I don’t know if it will pass or fail, but it doesn’t matter. Because in response to 40, Sergey Brin and other billionaires got prop 42 on the ballot, and are funding a huge campaign for it by tens of millions of dollars. If 42 passes not only will it block whatever the voters choose with 40, it will forbid California from ever taxing wealth.
The campaign against 42 is seriously underfunded and disorganized. So many texts and ads focusing how if we don’t pass 42 then the GOVERNMENT is gonna come after the $10k you have saved up in your 401k and not about how it will never let us address wealth inequality. And everyone I know is falling for it, I think it will be a landslide. Genuinely wish 40 was never put on the ballot because of it.
(And yes of course, we can just appropriate wealth after the revolution I know, at the same time I’d like to be able at least try and address inequality before then)
I sit here with a sinking feeling in my stomach. I’m hoping for good news. I’m hoping this is a turning point.
But man I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it turns out to be a wash and we get more years of this shit.
We are getting more years of this shit regardless. The best Democrats can do is conduct investigations (that will be ignored), hold debates (that will be ignored), and pass laws that will be veto’d.
That’s better than the alternative but don’t pretend like the midterms are going to be a major shift of power. Its just one step, the legislature. Republicans still have the Presidency and the Supreme Court backing them. Even if House + Senate go blue this year, that’s 1 branch vs 2 branches.
If Trump loses badly, it will also send a powerful message. Then everyone knows that no one likes Trump no matter how Fox News tries to spin it. It will make the whole Republican party freak out for 2028.
Are you kidding? For Fox and Friends, the powerful message will be how effective the Dems rigged the election, and why none of them should be allowed to be sworn into congress. There are no teachable moments for the wilfully ignorant.
Yeah, but the election rigging works less well when the result is overwhelming for democrats. In fact, it might even alienate people who voted R before, but switched to D. Some part of the population will lap it up, but they will believe absolutely anything anyway.
It’s still at least a branch that can stymie a lot of things.
I’m not saying things are magically gonna get fixed but there’s a lot of bad that’s been able to go through because congress is complicit or “shuts down” at the right time.
I don’t have a lot of hope and this is my only chance for a light at the end of the tunnel.
If the Democrats win the House of Senate, it’s very good news regardless.
The Senate map is impossible. I mean it’s probably happening but Texas, Arkansas, North Carolina are supposed to be impossible.
But it’s only going to truly matter if the memomentum continues into 2028. This year is an important first step forward but that’s all it is or can be, just a step.
I’m ready to get this over with. This should be the beginning of the end of the Trump regime.
Every single stupid asshole who boycotted the 2024 election better get their asses to the polls and vote Dem if they haven’t already.
You stupid assholes refused to act when it would have been the easiest for you to do so, and your lack of action contributed to the hell we live in today.
The blood of Iranians, Palestinians, the Lebanese, Cubans, Venezuelans, hundreds of innocent fisherman, everyone who relied on USAID, and everyone being kidnapped and dissapeared by ICE IS ON YOUR HANDS TOO.
YOU FUCKING FAILED EVERYONE YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT.
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING FOR THEM.
Get over yourself.
What about the people who boycotted over Palestine?
Are you under the impression that Gaza is better off now then it would have been with Harris as POTUS?
I don’t think it would have been in either administration. Biden didn’t do anything so there was no need for Harris to do anything either had she been elected
They weren’t going to let gaza get leveled that’s for sure
Especially those fkn people.
I’m subscribed to Bloomberg as part of my job; I’m not sure I’m going to be able to handle their panicking all day long today.
For anyone claiming that it’s all the same, I have a website tracking supporters of wealth taxation around the world and the US has remarkably many elected politicians who backs taxing extreme wealth. All but 1 are Democrats, and that’s Bernie Sanders (but his seat isn’t up).
25 people in the Senate backs taxing extreme wealth. 81 people in the House backs taxing extreme wealth. https://wealthtaxsupporters.com/us/seats

I fear New Mexico is going to get a red governor.
Oregon is potentially on the edge as well. Drazan would be a disaster.

It’s crazy that Oregon is even close. Generally one of the most left-leaning states in my experience, I wish I understood what was going on.
Edit / 2: here’s the line I found from your second link (thanks!):
The biggest issues on voters’ minds, the poll found, are overall affordability (87%) followed by K–12 education (85%) and housing affordability (78%). Although the debate raging over data centers has generated a lot of headlines and heat lately, only 50% of respondents said the issue was “extremely/very” important to them, making it far less of an issue than taxes (77%), homelessness (77%) or crime (73%).
Considering that Trump is almost entirely responsible for the nationwide affordability issues via tariffs and wars, what a self-own if voters take this out on Kotek. Also, housing affordability and education are important, yes, but totally irrational to elect someone who self-identifies as GOP in 2026 and expect them to do anything to help. I hope voters find some sense.
It’s going to be a blue wave, but lowkey I think a lot of incumbent democrats are gonna get taken out too. I’m not really sure how much of the general mood is anti-GOP and how much is anti-incumbency.
Albuquerque won’t let that happen.
Between them, Santa Fe, and Taos I were hold the line. I think Hull will be as bad for the state as Martinez was, but she was preMAGA, so he will likely be worse.
