Republicans have condemned the presence of two Dan Sullivans on the ballot, calling it a ploy to split votes

    Okay, and?

The voting laws in Alaska are already upheld by the Alaskan supreme court, and Republicans love to play the “well, this isn’t technically against the rules” when they pull stunts, so I’m all outta fucks.

As a man with two daughters, I’ll never forget Republican hypocrisy about timing to nominate judges WRT Merrick Garland and Amy Coney Barrett.

The alt-right playbook says rules only matter when they can be used against your opponents.

We also have Eric haffner, running as a Democrat, in prison in the East Coast somewhere. Ratfuckery.

The not-senator Dan Sullivan has a platform, a website, responded to requests for information on his priorities, and has and numerous coherent thoughts, unlike Eric. So… Which one is the plant? The guy with a common name? Right-o.

“Alaskan voters need to know,” Elisa Rios, whom Peltola fired in August, told the Times, which added that she later tried to retract her interview with the outlet.

    Well, I’m convinced.

Do these fucks not remember when Florida pulled this stunt in 2020? I think that ghost candidates are shady regardless of who’s pulling the steings, but at least AK has ranked choice voting to really mitigate the possibility of voters making the mistake of voting for the candidate they don’t actually prefer. Further, they updated the ballot to really clarify which Dan Sullivan is the incumbent and which is not.

I’ve been known to complain about ranked voting advocates who promote IRV for features it doesn’t have, but this form of strategic nomination is one thing IRV does defend against. I’d consider this a dirty trick if they did it here, but all Alaskans have to do is rank the Dans Sullivan consecutively on their ballots (in either order). Then Dan Sullivan can’t be eliminated until he gets re-eliminated after getting votes transferred from the first eliminated Dan Sullivan.

They did a really nice job making which Dan Sullivan was which, by labeling the sitting senator ‘incumbant’, and using middle initials. I, frankly, don’t feel bad for you misplacing your vote if you lack enough awareness about out political system to understand the vocabulary,or the give-a-shit to whip your phone out, or ask someone what that word means. Or to Google which one has what middle initial.

But yeah. What you described is the strategy. It’s on their ads. ‘pick your favorite Republican, rank the other two,and blank the Democrats. It’s how Alaska wins’ (while also running ranked choice voting repeal ads, because it’s ‘dumb, dumb, dumb’ and makes voting confusing. The political ads this season are so fucked. And it’s NON STOP.

Yeah, isn’t this election taking place under a ranked choice vote? Incredibly easy for voters to work around these shenanigans.

Leave it to the New York fucking Times to bend over backwards trying to gin up some controversy about a Dem candidate messing with an election in the last week of October, tho. That fucking shit rag should’ve been burnt to the ground back when they were pushing W’s WMD bullshit two decades ago.

“Sorry, you’re not entitled to the same democracy as everyone else because someone with the same name as you is an incumbent” would be an extremely dumb way to run a country

Sure if we want to pretend that’s why he’s running. But come on. Come on man.
