I don’t have anywhere near the assets or income these guys do, and of course the tax in question here is not an income tax, but here in Colorado, it’s a flat 4.4% tax on income. For all income tax returns filed.

If I can afford 4.4% on my income, people in the billionaire bracket should be able to afford a 5% tax on their net worth, FFS.

They can even pay it in installments over the course of 5 years. When these people queen out about how their value is not necessarily liquid, or it’s only on paper, I’m sure they can find ways to find liquidity to pay 5% over five years. These are supposed to be people of such high caliber and giants among men - I’m sure they will be able to come up with the cash over the course of five years. Some of the reactionary centrists can give them advice on how to scrimp and save - things like don’t have the latest smartphone, don’t eat avocado toast, cancel your streaming subscriptions, etc… 🤣

When I see people in this billionaire bracket (and their sycophants) talking about how they fear this is an “existential threat”, I have to chuckle. They are being total Karens.

Maybe people like Huang might be remembering their history and fully understand that a mere pressure relief valve like this nominal amount serves as an off-ramp from real and actual existential threats to aristocrats.
