in the podcast they mentioned an app that scans for them and my partner asked me to find the app. I guess it may interest some people here ☞

The app, called Nearby Glasses, has one sole purpose: Look for smart glasses nearby and warn you.
It uses company identificators in the Bluetooth data sent out by these.
You can buy camera glasses which work with a micro-SD. No bluetooth, no lights, just records. Just sayin’.
I assume this is what the true pervs use to film some of the creepier stuff.
Honestly thinking of buying a pair, to creep on the popo. They don’t like being filmed, best to do it covertly.

There’s cheap ones getting around too. Not sure what they connect to, I think it’s a Chinese mob. The ones I refer to are being stocked by Kmart in Australia and run under their in house Anko brand.
I don’t know if this app or program detects those. I guess the developer would need the Bluetooth code.
I’m certain it wouldn’t be too hard for a community driven list to be made/loaded.

I just went into the local one, they didn’t have them there unless they were behind the counter
I used these at a concert recently. It said, glasses nearby…oh wait no it didnt, that bird means no glasses nearby… I dont get it.
Make sure you’re using the actual project with the links from the developer’s github rather than the copycats.

If you go to the settings in the top right you can turn off canary mode and just get the actual debug logs (and you’ll get a notification if there are glasses nearby)
But I’d need to have BT on for that to work?
i don’t keep Bluetooth on. I, if/when i use the app, would turn it on to check and turn it back off.
I think the point is to get a notification when you’re getting into the range of some of those glasses
“the point” always depends on how you live and what you need. I will use the app in situations where/when i need to check for smartGlasses.
99.99999999% of my life won’t need that verification.
if you’re living and working in situations where what you said in private may ruin your public life, you may always keep it on. (which would bring up other privacy concerns related to Bluetooth)
