The Democratic Party is terrified of even small liberal reforms and will not abide left leaning democrats thwarting their plans for austerity and neoliberal orthodoxy.
Unfortunately, it’s the only “left” we have. The true left needs to form their own tea party and start electing candidates, hold Democrat policy hostage, and using primaries to out the resistors. There does not seem to be the will or unity to do this.
The will and unity was there. And then we went through 2 red scares, political purges across all major industries, the communist control act, COINTELPRO, etc.
You can’t honestly believe the solution is electoralism when the last 2 times we tried electoralism we were beaten, deported, imprisoned, and murdered. The electoral path is dead.
You can’t really hold the Democrats hostage because they’re fully willing to lose in order to stop leftist insurgents. While Democrats can bash their left flank over the head with “blue no matter who!” the DSA-types can’t do the same to centrists.
It’s important for them to try, and demonstrate it can’t be done, but I don’t hold out hope for that as an effective strategy.
