Rising prices for fertilizer and diesel are driving up costs for farmers — squeezing an industry that's already under intense pressure.

That’s the whole quality transforming into quality thing. Problems often build up over time, and they’re not visible on the surface because the system is able to amortize them internally. So, it can look like nothing is visibly happening, but then once the existing stocks become depleted and it’s no longer possible to amortize the problems, big events like economic crashes occur seemingly out of nowhere. A great book on the whole thing I can highly recommend https://research.fit.edu/media/site-specific/researchfitedu/coast-climate-adaptation-library/climate-communications/psychology-amp-behavior/Meadows-2008.-Thinking-in-Systems.pdf

Just think, this article doesn’t even get into the rising labor costs from the ICE terror regime and is only focused on material inputs.

I’m a local and I didn’t realize how much fertilizers were produced by the GCC countries until recently.

Today, the Gulf accounts for about 29% of globally traded ammonia and 36% of urea –making it one of the most critical nodes in the global food system and, by extension, one of its most exposed.
