A nearby school has just finished construction and is planning to open next week. However, it’s already been struck multiple times by bullets escaping a shooting range a mile or so away. They’ve released notices telling people to avoid one side of the building due to the stray bullets and adjusted activities to the late evening when the range is closed.
After asking the range to improve it’s quality so that this doesn’t happen, the shooting range apparently told them to pound sand. Now there’s a big lawsuit trying to force this shooting range to actually stop the bullets being fired so they don’t kill children because they refuse to do anything.

Gun owners are, by definition, myopic and irresponsible. They like to do pranks, like celebratory gunfire. This kind of gunfire kills people all the time. You’re more likely to die catching a bullet this way, than people who get shot on purpose. That’s because the bullet moving downward is likely to strike the head, shoulders, or (if you’re lucky) feet.
Bullets like this are fatal even if fired miles away and slowed to terminal velocity. The average gun owner may not realize that bullets are purposefully designed to move through air quite efficiently and do damage to anything they strike.
Stray bullets fired from long distances are absolutely fatal.
