A nearby school has just finished construction and is planning to open next week. However, it’s already been struck multiple times by bullets escaping a shooting range a mile or so away. They’ve released notices telling people to avoid one side of the building due to the stray bullets and adjusted activities to the late evening when the range is closed.

After asking the range to improve it’s quality so that this doesn’t happen, the shooting range apparently told them to pound sand. Now there’s a big lawsuit trying to force this shooting range to actually stop the bullets being fired so they don’t kill children because they refuse to do anything.

    The .338 Lapua is a round designed for long distance shooting and at a mile its bullet drop is 32 yards or 96 feet. That’s almost like a raindrop in a windstorm, and it means you’d have to aim so absurdly high over a target it would be intentional. There is no just slipping over the berm, unless the berm is within a few hundred feet of the school.

      What about 9mm (most common)?

      And lots of shooters are TERRIBLE.

      And with FRTs becoming more common, bad shooters are becoming even worse shots. (The rapid firing walks the impact of successive shots higher)

        I wouldn’t be concerned about a handgun cartridge vs. a long range sniper cartridge with roughly 10x the muzzle energy.

        I want to say smaller bullets tend to suffer more from drag and so can’t go as far. It’s not that drag is heavier, but that it’s heavier in proportion to the mass of the bullet.
