This is the first time in over two decades that the US has rejected OSCE participation in a federal election.

To be clear, the US federal government has not refused international election monitors ever. This policy of allowing international election observers to observe our elections only started in 2002. However, in 2012 Texas and Iowa both threatened international observers with criminal prosecution if they came within 100 feet of polling places.
