“Reposters” as a separate thing from “Bots” with the same Show and Hide options for filtering that bots have. Reposters are more targeted, with higher quality content than true bots and often have a human operator writing comments. However many people find this inauthentic so now they can be filtered out. Whoaaa multi-image?! Amazing!! Will it work retroactively? I’ve been posting to threadiverse comms from Pixelfed for years lol
No, sorry!
That’s ok! I was just curious 😊
Slightly off topic, but is hosting a PieFed instance becoming the better option over a lemmy one these days? Any thoughts there?
My comment is probably biaised because i’m part of PieFed team (translation, wiki, idea, issue…). I hope more devs will join us :)
On the moderation side, features, PieFed reached a good maturity. We have good tools against bot, and other tools that improve our community. I dunno how other fediverse software handle that.
On UI, we are fine, there is a bottom nav bar, a search bar it works well on mobile. It is visually clean except lengthy community and menu. There is room for improvement compared to Lemmy and Mbin. It will be adressed soon :)
The main thing that most Lemmy users will miss are mobile app because PieFed API are not complete or app are in developpement. Also that’s because PieFed improve and grow at a very fast space.
However, you can use PWA (progressive web app), it works well. Also Lemmy v1.0 will catch up some piefed feature.
If you are interested, you can try it on yunohost or create an alt to try it. :)
Thank you for your thoughtful reply and taking the time to do so. Yah I am currently running a lemmy instance that is working quite well with some minor issues (pict-rs not generating thumbnails from local files that are uploaded, and federating to certain instances like dbzero). So my curiosity is really from the perspective of is the grass really greener or are there significant benefits to starting up a new instance running PieFed as I assume there are no sane pathways to migrate from a lemmy instance to a PieFed one. Either way I appreciate your response, things to think about for $3000 Alex! 🤣
I would say yes but with some trade of.
Imho, the best way is to create an account because there is so many features that i end up writting a book.
- merging community under the same umbrella : opensource@lemmy.world, opensource@lemmy.ml… = topic (managed by sysadmin), feed (managed by users)
- merging comment from post with the same link (access to comment from the threadiverse AND mastodon, peertube…)
- hashtag (improve discovenability mastodon users can find our content and we can find content related to some to those hashtag)
- flair (community filter)
- blocklist (keyword, domain, flair, user, community…)
- blocklist of domain related to far-right, spam
- tool to detect AI, bot, spam…
- following mastodon users
Mbin is also great and deserve some love.
Oh wow, that is an impressive feature set that is sorely missing. The mastadon integration is also pretty great which is missing from Lemmy. Would you recommend the piefed.social instance to try it out? Thanks again!
Why not ? I understand that Piefed.social is the flagship but, no, there are plenty good instances and we also included Pylova (a PieFed fork). So yes and no. 😋
When you will register on any PieFed instance, you will arrive on the instance chooser page :
https://piefed.zip/auth/instance_chooser
And that’s where you can decide. There are important info :
- the stability (i forgot, probably a mix of number of admin + uptime)
- the speed with emoji : 🐌⚡🚀 (related to server location). So don’t pick the slow one (snail)
And their description should help you. :)
PyLova is piefed but with more features and without all the bad decisions. I’d say that’s the better option to host.
Ahh never heard of that! Thank you.
What do the multi-image posts look like when federated to Lemmy? Even if I don’t see the extra images, I hope there’s at least some sign I’m missing something so I can go looking elsewhere.
Lemmy just displays the first image and ignores the rest.
In a future version maybe we can insert the images into the post body, or make Lemmy link to the PF version of the post.
On PyLova they show up in a Lemmy posts body on software that cannot support them.
Good question, i will test it. For now the only gallery post i see are from Mastodon. :)
PF is finally starting to follow PyLova’s lead seeing as it’s had the image posts, sidebar hashtags, and default hash tags for so long. This whole update feels like PF has no original ideas for its future.
PyLova still has far more features and none of that vote limit junk.
The only thing holding me back from migrating is the clients I use- Voyager and Alexandrite. I need to be able to see my upvoted, down voted, and hidden content
You can see your up and downed content on PyLova.
It works with Voyager? What’s a good instance? Is there only one?
There’s 4 or 5 at the moment. I know of anarchist.nexus, quokk.au, and piefed.zeromedia.vip
I’m using Voyager and can see the “Hidden” content overview
You’re right, hidden is there but not upvoted or down voted.
For me it was the missing support for “auto fill” when using Link posts on Voyager. Small issue, but annoying enough. Also PieFed.social blocking some stuff without it being obvious why at the beginning. I could have changed instances though.
Piefed support autofill, maybe it miss an API or the app don’t have it yet.
Dunno but you can request it :)
