BT Group has agreed a takeover rescue deal to buy TalkTalk’s consumer and wholesale divisions out of administration, safeguarding roughly 900 jobs alongside telecommunications supply for millions of subscribers and vital public services.

According to BT, the transaction will “protect continuity of service for its 2.5 million customers, avoiding the risk of material harm to vulnerable customers and key emergency services”.

Insolvency administrators at Alvarez & Marsal Europe confirmed that the sale will see all 900 employees across TalkTalk’s consumer and broadband business and PXC transfer over to BT as part of the deal.

BT are not rescuing a company here. They’re absorbing it and acquiring its staff and customers. I don’t know why we are pretending they are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s not like they are donating money to them.

So BT now trades as BT, EE (itself the product of T-Mobile & Orange merging), PlusNet and now TalkTalk

Would be much less problematic if it was still publicly owned; thanks again Thatcher…

TalkTalk spent the better part of the 2000s buying up and absorbing almost all of the smaller ISPs, they ruined any sense of competition and now BT is talking full advantage to cement their monopoly.

There’s basically only BT and VirginMedia left with most alternatives being owned by one of the two.

Give it a year and most of those “saved” jobs will be gone after BT fully swaps over all of the TalkTalk customers to their existing systems.

BT are not the good guys here.

We were on talktalk for over a decade, at least they allowed me to access the mullvad website and dns. We moved to virgin media earlier this year and I can only access the mullvad site via tor now. Can’t access the dns at all. I was always trash-talking talktalk when we were using them, but man, virgin is way worse :(

That might be a parental control setting you can turn off, for what it’s worth. I’m pretty sure I used Mullvad under Virgin, but that was some time back.
