AfaIk, it’s Finland where cursive handwriting is no longer part of the curriculum, not Sweden. In Sweden, schools/teachers can choose whether they teach the Latin type or a simplified version (SÖ-stilen).

    Edit:

    Situation in Sweden:

The compulsory handwriting style [i.e. teaching simplified cursive handwriting instead of Latin] was abolished ten years later [1985]. Some teachers now chose to return to teaching the style that had been used previously. This older style was introduced in schools in the late 19th century and, in turn, replaced earlier styles

    Situation in Finland:

Opetushallitus hyväksyi joulukuussa 2014 uudet opetussuunnitelman perusteet, joiden mukainen perusopetus alkoi elokuussa 2016.[5] Uusissa opetussuunnitelman perusteissa vaaditaan opetettavan vain tekstauskirjaimilla kirjoittamista sekä näppäintaitoja.[6] Kaunokirjoituksen pakollinen opetus siis loppui peruskouluissa vuonna 2016, tosin sitä opetetaan edelleen valinnaisaineena monin paikoin.[7]

In December 2014, the National Board of Education approved new curriculum guidelines, and basic education based on these guidelines began in August 2016. [5] The new curriculum guidelines require that only writing in block letters and keyboard skills be taught.[6] Compulsory calligraphy instruction thus ended in elementary schools in 2016, although it is still taught as an elective subject in many places.[7]
