Even farmers who were already promised funds from the REAP program may never get them under the Trump admin’s new restrictions. Some are suing.
I’ll note that rural utilities have been quite subsidized since the New Deal; the idea was that making electricity and phone service universal would benefit the country as a whole and bring everybody on board with the idea of government doing things for people.



I saw a politician describing progressive efforts as using popularity to push through programs for the general good and then when there’s the inevitable backlash, you hope that the next Congress doesn’t fully undo the good and that people realize that it’s valuable and want to keep it.
Change is tough, and most people will choose bad status quo over disruptive maybe-improvement. See:conservatives
But is not “maybe improvement” it’s “look at the rest of the world and pull yer head outta yer own damn ass!”
