They really only think about things that they’re told to in their propaganda media. For example, the owner of a convenience store down the street from me said he voted for Trump because he thought his admin would be “better for crypto”. He has a crypto newsletter with all sorts of stupid links to conservative BS on “X” and AI memes that say “John Thune is a traitor” (I think for not supporting the CLARITY crypto act). Anyway, I mentioned living in Minnesota and he muttered “that state is so damn corrupt…” as if it is realistically any worse than any other state, and as if he really knows anything about it besides the propaganda BS that came from the targeted attack on Tim Walz and Minnesota. Guaranteed a dozen “red” states are more so damn corrupt.

This 100%. I was in Costa Rica last year with my brother who lives in Seattle. We crossed paths with another family of tourists from Dallas TX and they couldn’t stop asking my brother about whether it was “safe” to go to Seattle. They acted like it was a war zone or something. Clearly they had been fed lies upon lies and they bought it all.

Just today in Seattle, I had to fend off a whole two mosquitos while also avoiding getting a burn from the glowing nuclear reaction in the sky. It’s getting bad here.

yeah, people have been told that Portland and Minneapolis were BURNED to the GROUND repeatedly, even though nothing even remotely close to that happened, and that Seattle was a lawless area of anarchy. Not surprising a family from Texas would have absolutely no idea what was going on in reality.

There were posters on various chat rooms, notably Denver Post’s (before they shut it down) that would constantly make that claim.

I kept asking them exactly which cities “burned to the ground”? Where is the evidence for any of their claims, etc…they’d either try to get me silenced, claim they didn’t literally mean it, but lots of buildings did burn to the ground, or tell me “everyone’s saying it, watch the news, whole cities are on fire” or to do “my own research”, LOL.

They love to make statements, pretend they are just axiomatic self-evident truths that everyone just accepts without evidence and without question, and the very minute they run up against someone that has the fortitude to ask them about their premises, they faceplant.

Also, even with the instances of arson, it’s not really clear that there is any pattern that would tie this to BLM protesters per se. It’s certainly not endorsed by BLM. And we definitely have no idea how many were done by undercover cops, right wing agent provocateurs, and just random bad actors looking to get their kicks. We definitely know that there is a history of right wing government agents using agent provocateurs to undermine populist movements…

Yes, it’s very, very common for conservatives to make broad claims, usually insulting, and fail to provide any evidence or logic for it.

I was in Portland when the Floyd protests started. All that really happened was people shot fireworks at a Fed Govt building. A small fire was started inside. An Apple Store got smashed up (I have a cool pic of it) but I don’t think it was left/liberal protestors who did that. Zero buildings burned down in Portland in 2020 during the protests. Still, the New York Post did their dude as a sensational conservative tripe outlet and said “Protesters burn government building during riot in Portland”

Buildings were set on fire in Minneapolis, which overall I think is ridiculous as it harms so many innocent people and damages businesses and facilities people rely on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arson_damage_during_the_George_Floyd_protests_in_Minneapolis–Saint_Paul

Haha! I was reading that same link it so happens…note in the property location portion

Many property locations owned and operated by ethnic minorities and immigrants were among those damaged by fire,

              🤔

And yeah, setting fire to shit and breaking shit is really quite stupid. Not only does it lose you a lot of public support, it also gives the cops reasons to start getting more violent.

Which is probably why agent provocateurs resort to this kind of thing, but the average person at or near a protest should definitely not engage in this kind of thing - if anything they should try to intercept anyone that is.

There’s still a portion of deranged Republicans in any blue area, and in Texas, the suburbs and rural areas are full of people with insane stubborn delusions and ignorance.

Holy shit, well thank god the bald eagle and the flag are on there, FFS. 🤣

HAHA. About the CLARITY bill; you should ask him why he thinks the Trump family should get to make money on every single dollar issued from here on out.

          https://www.unftr.com/blog/the-crypto-heist-happening-right-under-our-noses

In the piece we discussed an important word: seigniorage. This is the profit a government makes by issuing currency; essentially the difference between what money costs to make and what it’s worth. It’s how central banks fund themselves. And we said at the time Congress had just cleared a path for Donald Trump to capture a meaningful piece of that for himself and his family, in perpetuity.

And a family that collects fees on every transaction, in perpetuity, at a scale that could eventually rival the Federal Reserve’s own seigniorage.

Astounding that with those provisions, the bill almost passed. Republicans are ridiculous.

The newsletter dude told me “I was a big democrat all my life, voted democrat 35 years.” which I NEVER believe coming from someone who is currently supporting Trump. He’d abandon every single principle and issue important to him because he thinks trump would be “better on crypto”?

I’ve seen a lot of those “ask a maga supporter questions at a rally” videos and the things they say are just so incredibly stupid. As usual, they can’t provide any logic or facts to support what they’re saying. One of my faves is some moron saying that these days, Democrats fly the confederate flag, not Republicans.

Probably got one of their very favorite talking points all bungled up - the cons love talking about Democrats/Dixiecrats being the real racists because something something, some random facts pulled out of a hat, dealing with things prior to the Civil Rights era, and Republicans under Lincoln, freed the slaves. They want to talk about Robert Byrd being in the Klan like eighty fucking years ago, while talking about donnie having dinner with a shitheel like Fuentes is somehow not in the cards.

They don’t want to talk about the Southern Strategy or just about anything that happened since about 1965. That all the cons fled to the Republican Party because it is a home for racists is something they just refuse to accept.

What I love to ask these people talking about how Democrats are the real racists is this, and it’s really very simple: why is it all the Republicans having to break out the fainting couches and the smelling salts over the Confederate statues coming down?

Conservatives are just not very good with 20th century history. I also ask them if they really think Alabama and Mississippi were electing liberals and not conservatives in the 50s. Sometimes which party the KKK endorses, though that’s something that would get a “that’s FAEK” type answer.

Oh, this is the video I was thinking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV2fFeKSuwM The guy is just really muddled.

He’d probably mutter about how Joe Biden screwed everything up. I started just not talking about politics with him because it became uninteresting. He reminds me of a coworker I have, though, who has a lot of views that conflict with republicans (is for universal healthcare, against religion in schools and government, pro abortion rights, doesn’t support funding Israel or any country) but calls himself a “trump lover” and his answer to any of the legion of criminal things trump as done as president and before is “that never happened”. However, despite supporting healthcare, he is enraged about any assistance to poor people and things like school lunch. Anyway, I never got Store Guy’s take on Iran.
