8·2 days agoHDD prices have also skyrocketed. Even the refurbished/recertified market. For example, I could previously get a manufactured recertified 22TB (HC570, I think) drive for around $299 around two months ago. Now, that same drive is at $409. That’s over $100 in around that timeframe, and is also for recertified drives.

371·4 days agoSpace is the worst place for high powered servers because of all the heat involved along with the inability to perform maintenance. It’s just a grift, it will not be profitable to put HPC GPUs in orbit.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Frigate NVR Critical RCE VulnerabilityEnglish
1·8 days agoI know, but it seemed like there was confusion about my intended point, which is that you should never expose it to the open internet. It wasn’t a question I really intended to be answered since I know that was their intention. My confusion is why do that when there are secure alternatives, some of which are easier than opening a port.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Frigate NVR Critical RCE VulnerabilityEnglish
2·8 days agoThere are far better, more secure ways to do this. You could use a reverse proxy. You could use tailscale. You could use wireguard.
The last thing you should do is open Frigate’s port to the net.
