Repost, but worth it.
This is what the “Luddite” attitude to technology actually is. It’s also important to remember that “recommendation” models are also a problem, it’s not just the slop generators that need to go.

I’ve watched like every video this guy has made 😅. I still think the implication is that today’s algorithms are making this problem way worse.
You made a completely different argument than what the video is actually about.
But as you said the point is that “excessive passive consumption has made people unable to research information for themselves”. And as mentioned in the video title, algorithms, which I think everyone else here can agree does not refer to radio broadcasts, are part of that problem.
But as I said earlier, TV had the exact same effect. People didn’t go to libraries to find answers. They took whatever the TV broadcast at them. The TV programming was designed to keep people consuming the media.
Fair for you to make that argument, but now that’s a different argument than what this video is about. In the first 2 minutes he explicitly says the video “is about the modern internet”
Yes but his video is specifically about how modern Internet users have become passive consumers of media and have lost their ability to do their own searching.
Passive consumers of media is what we had for over 100 years until the Internet. Newspaper, radio, and TV were all passive. By the 1970’s they were algorithmically programmed with computers to keep consumers passively engaged.
Lazy consumers of media is the default state and we have returned to it.
It’s a great video. I love all his content. But it has fuck all to do with LLM’S. YouTube was algorithming content long before LLM’S.
