It “works” the same way you can eat fast food to prevent starvation since you do get calories from it. But you essentially do damage to yourself long term and slowly kill yourself.

In moderation it can work, but just like fast food, it’s always better to eat less, ideally 0 amount.

It might be worth it if you don’t have any other option, but not having any other option is a bigger failing on overall planning.

If you consume lots of it then you do tolerate it more than those who abstain themselves; whom totally feel sick when they consume any of it.

At the end of the day, it would never be considered quality or good, but just like fast food, our cooperate overlords will try to get us to use it as much as possible.

I just hope this means that similarly, those who respect their mind/body can easily live their life and avoid it.

The only difference I can think of is that fast food is profitable, which is pretty hilarious.

So, back to the title, imagine living in a world where a significant chunk of the population think McDonald’s is somehow better than home cooked meals. That’s where we are at atm.

Good analogy. I also think fast food is ok to have. And I also think AI is ok to have. Hear me out. I’ll continue the analogy.

When fast food is bad is when it creates food deserts, when it is the only affordable food (not anymore but nothing is) for massive parts of the population, when it is being pushed for profit incentive that contradics the interest of a healthy society. It is less helpful to look at an individual fast food restaurant than it is to look at the health outcomes of a neighborhood who’s main form of food consumption is through access to fast food.

The main issue with AI is similar to the issues with fast food. It is fundamentally a systemic issue.

If we used AI to get our work done faster, work less hours/days, and had more vacation time. If we dropped all of the countless AI uses that are absolutely brain rotting and counterproductive we could see benefits. We could have more time to take up physical or intellectual hobbies.

But we have no control over that in our society. We fundamentally do not have freedom if we do not live in a society that is able to democratically decide how AI is applied and who benefits. And it’s not just with AI. It’s with fossil fuels. It’s with infrastructure. It’s with healthcare. We do not have Democratic control of these fundamental parts of our lives.

Right now, we just have a bunch of rich tech oligarchs deciding that setting the planet on fire to monopolize the totality of human knowledge, destroy the internet, destroy our environment and our planet. Oh, and we gotta do it because “China is gonna do it first”.
