Was thinking about this today. With all the publicity surrounding this slop, it really seems like a psyop to get younger people (or anyone) into a mindset of “I shouldn’t learn programming. There’s no jobs for that and AI will just do it. I shouldn’t make music or art, AI will just do it anyway”. I’ve even fallen into this trap myself a couple of times!

I’m sure educators have already heard “why am I learning this, i’ll just have AI do it” a million times already.

Really seems like a great plan by the overlords. Depress everyone so they are dumb and unskilled so they are forced to use your trash.

Right you are. I’m so disgusted how so many people are just offhandedly like “this is new shiny and good I use it all the time!!”

      Braindead.

It’s primary use is to help scared people live within their delusions and avoid facing reality. Be it advertising or propaganda.

I’ve heard Fascism described primarily as an aesthetic that everything else within it, including reality, flows from. GenAI makes it a lot easier to apply the aesthetic to whatever uncomfortable reality a scared lonely person may desire.

I shouldn’t make music or art, AI will just do it anyway.

definitely had the opposite effect for me. kinda want to learn how to draw because of AI.

I mean even just with the advent of the internet, its a little silly to be making anything whe millions, perhaps billions, of others are also doing it. My music will never be as good as The Greats (people who practiced 10 hours a day every day and toured 250 days of the year), and I myself wouldn’t listen to my own stuff (except in my head) so I’m not sure its worth all the time and energy.

I mean, there hasn’t been significant innovation from American tech companies, apart from AI, in a pretty long time. MS, Amazon, Google, Apple, none of them have introduced anything groundbreaking or even particularly good in the last ten years or so. Its pretty clear that American tech is contracting.

I can’t relate with that kind of thinking. I like programming. I also like to be curious, lean something, solve puzzles, build something myself. I mean sure I could let someone or something do everything for me and not participate in any process. But where’s the fun in that? And what would I even do all day if I don’t use computers anymore because they do everything themselves? Don’t read anymore because that’s already summarized and the key facts stored? Not play a videogame because it plays itself? What would be the point in doing that? Don’t humans do things, and that gives some sort of meaning to things and people?
