I like Mamdani, he’s great.
But he is doing exactly what all politicians should be doing all the time.
The fact that this amazing man is seen as a shining star when he’s just actually doing his job as a public servant is terrifying to me as someone with a young child.
Side note, if you Americans ever get sick of Mamdani, Bernie Sanders or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… Please send them to Australia, we need people like them.
When Mamdani sat at his desk for the first time, he moved all the neglected paperwork from previous administrations, and discovered a big red button that said “Something Good.” So he pressed it, and Something Good happened.
He kept pressing it, and good stuff kept happening. It turned out, that button was ALWAYS there, and previous mayors could have pressed it at any time, but they never bothered.
Then it turns out that a Something Good button is on the desk of EVERY politician, and they just don’t press it. Why? Because really wealthy people and corporations pay them a lot of money to NOT press that button.
It’s time to make ALL politicians start pressing the Something Good button on their desks.
And he’s so clever about it. He talked about what he’s doing and that some people argued he’s only doing small stuff (like fixing potholes) and nothing with big impact.
And he said that all those small things can be done quickly, so people see results quickly and that builds a positive relationship with the public and that builds the political capital do do bigger things and start projects that take longer so people will have to wait and trust longer before results happen.
He is absolutely aware of the importance of the narrative and how to build it.

I just hope the left doesn’t turn on him the second he compromises even a little, like they usually do.
