For each of a states seat, while keeping the normal scheduled elections as well. 2 years still isn’t perfect, but the existence of that mechanic would prevent Collins/Fetterman politicians who just make blatant lies to get elected then tell voters “what are ya gonna do about it?” once they’re in office.
The Senate can do expulsions, but the last one was in the 1860s. And while normally you’d be able to count on the other party to expell, they’ll never do it when the target is getting expelled for going against their constiuents wishes in favor of the other party.
2/3s majority ain’t happening for anything and that’s been true for a while.
That essentially means the only way a Senator like that will leave office in under 6 years, is in a body bag. The more stress the average American is under, the more likely that becomes.
Like, we’re getting damn close to people legitimately having nothing to lose. Politicians like Fetterman who seem to enjoy trolling their own voters don’t understand how desperate and irrational people are getting.
If midterm elections don’t seem fair to voters, a lot of individuals are going to decide the first two boxes aren’t working, and it’s on to the last one. Like, even more than they have been.
He will switch a day after election day, if it looks like the post-election GOP margin is going to be too small for safety.

Is there precedent for a party being able to eject or disown a member so they are not allowed to use the affiliation anymore?
The way it works is House/Senate members caucus with each other, that’s how the majority is decided, but there doesn’t have to be just two options it’s just math.
Bernie famously isn’t a Dem, but every two years when a new Congress convenes, he says he wants to caucus with the Dems, and they accept him to count towards majority.

In January (February?) when a new Congress convenes, Fettermen will pick D or R, but they can reject him if they really wanted to. They can “kick him out of the party” that way, but it would be very stupid.
To expell from the Senate, it takes a 2/3s majority and basically only worked during the civil war when a bunch of senators who supported the South stopped showing up in DC for some reason…
The 2/3s majority is who’s there, so a bunch of confederates got expelled from a government they had already seceeded from.
What we need is recall elections voters of that state can trigger.

I think he’s the only one that can change it from what party he was elected as. Which sucks in this situation, but woupd be a lot worse if the party could just kick someone out, because the neoliberals would 100% kick out progressives even if it meant handing Republicans a majority with under 50 seats if they regained the party and were desperate enough.
Unfortunately, no, he was elected on the DNC ticket and that fact is immutable. He also cannot be recalled because the district which elected him never passed laws including any such mechanism.
He could be sued for defamation if he ever made statements about his fellow party members or claimed to speak for all of the DNC, but he isn’t.
