Europe@feddit.org•Defence industry in the dark over how countries plan to use €150 billion EU loansEnglish
5·1 day agoEven still, a number of companies will still remain public. Mineral, metal, plastics, aviation, space, tech, etc.
If the arms companies were nationalized, their suppliers and subcontractors wouldn’t be.
Nationalization of the final layer of the arms wouldn’t be enough to stop corruption in the industry.

21·2 days agoXR is extinction rebellion?
This from Wikipedia kind of gets at my point.
Extinction Rebellion has been criticised as alienating potential supporters.[28][29] Extinction Rebellion’s 2019 protests cost the Metropolitan Police an extra £7.5 million. Activists identifying with the movement have also defended causing property damage, such as smashing windows.[30][31] Extinction Rebellion has said such tactics are sometimes necessary and that they are careful not to put anyone at risk.[32] In a YouGov poll of 3,482 British adults conducted on 15 October 2019, 54% “strongly opposed” or “somewhat opposed” Extinction Rebellion’s actions of disrupting roads and public transport to “shut down London” in order to bring attention to their cause, while 36% “strongly supported” or “somewhat supported” these actions.

33·3 days agoDoes that matter when you radicalize conservatives by arresting people and publicly shaming them? And there are other “serious journals” discussing the same

When conservatives get in power, they will do the same to you. I’m not anti woke. It’s just important to realize that things need to calm down. There are other ways to get what you want. “Violence [arresting] is the last refuge of the incompetent.”

1·3 days agoThis is a good point. I think we just need to make it clear that if the government wants enforce these age rules, they are responsible for the API.
I don’t want to give my data to a data broker, but the government could definitely provide such an API.

I had a co-worker who wrapped every function generated by AI with try/except (discarding the error).
The unit tests passed flawlessly!!! They also didn’t test anything at all
I was livid. My boss was an idiot and I tried to explain the issue, but I got in trouble because I took too long to fix it. 1000 of lines of mangled shit.
I just found a new job (got more pay too)

Europe@feddit.org•Current world order ‘dead’, Draghi warns Europe, as he outlines US and China threatsEnglish
10·8 days agoAlso European countries can pull out of the union fairly freely, and your taxes are paid to the country and the country then pays to EU (right?).
So you have the freedom to defund the EU if it gets corrupt. The US pays taxes first to the fed and then states. And no chance in hell a state can withdraw
I find it funny when people spend more time searching for their car and finding parking than it would have taken to use a bus
I still find it remarkable that we have convinced everyone that we need self driving electric cars … when a bus or train does the same
